I'm going on a 30 mile bike ride tomorrow - weather permitting.
First time in the saddle post-surgery
It's "Bike the Drive" a yearly bike event in Chicago. Up and down Lake Shore Drive
From Hollywood to the Museum of Science and Industry
I know that theoretically I should start small, but life has a way of getting in the way

Good luck on your first ride, but don't force it.

I would think your first ride should be under 10 miles, maybe 5 miles, and slowly work up to the longer distances...These events are never billed as a race but that's what they quickly become. But as you said, it's your life..
If you are confidant about
doing it, why start this thread?

I would assume you have been training for this , you are 6mos post op, so if you have been training , it should not be a problem, if not you are being foolish, but when has that ever stopped any of us.

Good luck on that ride, sounds nice along the south end of Lake Michigan.
You may want to change the last date on your most recent PSA reading, pretty sure you meant 2011, and not 2010

good luck on your ride - sounds like fun and a good challenge for you
- but do keep in mind - you can swallow your pride and go as far as you can
safely
- getting hurt will prove nothing
-but then, genetically speaking, we are often adverse to common sense ( including asking directions when we forget to bring along a map)...
:)
best wishes.

I like to read these sports related updates, being a runner myself. Enjoy the ride!

Congrats, man that is a great place for a bike ride. Thirty miles is good for an all you can eat at IHOP. Enjoy.

I'm glad you're finished before these latest thunderstorms come rolling through. It would not have been fun to get caught in one of those! Congratulations. (I'm up here in the far northern 'burbs).

sfigato: congrats on finishing the ride. I know your excited about
it. Yesterday I joined a group and did a 42 mile bike ride from St Francisville, LA to New Roads, LA across the newest bridge crossing the Mississippi river. The area in St Francisville is very hilly. What a nice ride. The temp here in Louisiana is hanging in the 90s. Still was a great day to be with friends on our bikes.

Hey Sfigato,
Wife and I wanted to do this. Maiden voyage monday.
Been afraid to re-introduce crotch to bike seat, even though surgery 2/14/11.
Congrats!

Every minute you ride or fish adds an hour to your life.....(DaSlink)....that quoted because it is worth its weight in gold. I love that quote, probably should add....golf, hunting, racing, sky diving, and playing music....all in the same scale (LOL).

Good luck--Just remember to listen to your body and adjust as needed. Continue exercising as it is good for the mind and spirit.
