Catheter out after 13 days RP?

Well he went to get the catheter out and they performed a xray first with contrast)  and found there to be a small leak, so the dr, wants him to keep in in for another week.  That was Thursday. Now on Friday, urine color has turned pinkish again. That happened off and on when he first got the catheter, and was told that was normal and would go away. But the last to days its back, pink urine in the bag. He is drinking LOTTSA water. Also explaining the feeling he was having with the catheter tip, the dr said it wounds like bladder spasms, and prescribed him meds. could it be the medicine?  Odd it would happen then go away and now pink is back. He said the contrast that was injected on Thursday was clear in color

Sorry to hear that he needs more healing. about that pain at his penis tip, that is likely due to the sensitive tissue inside the urethra being irritated. To keep that to a minimum, clean the catheter with a warm slightly soapy wash cloth to remove the dried crust that builds up there from urine and mucus that dries and becomes an irritant, then apply a small amount of neosporin on the first inch of the tube where it exits. The idea is to have the tube clean and lubed where it will be sliding in and out as he moves. This cleaning and lubing should be done several times a day, at least. Oh, and be carefull with the soap to not get any in the tip of the penis since it is probably irratated and will burn some. When cleaning the tube, try sliding the penis back some to expose more of the tube. Well, that is some fun stuff? Hopefully when the thing is removed, he will be continent ,or at least sort of, and you and him can get on with more fun things. Like the others said, bring some briefs or better some depends mens diapers to the next visit and wear gym pants. The diapers may be and overkill but better safe than sorry. Almost everybody leaks at first so plan for that. Good luck

Im thinking he may have done to much walking on thursday,because friday was pinkish and saturday seem to clean and now back to normal.
They did not tell us any daily cleansing of the tube. He is very very anxious to get passed this stage. Sad part is when he gets this out, he actually has to gear up for another surgery. He has a pitutary tumor and needs to have surgery to get that removed when he heals from this. Hopefully he does not have any difficulty with the anistesia he had with the RP.

Thanks David, I kinda thought it was not the meds. Did you have a cystogram (xray/contrast) ordered each time. He went last week and the test was ordered then see the doctor, next week get to do the same fun again. Just wondering if this usually done. Not that going to the hospital and spending the day is'nt fun, just wondering if he is not healed next week , if he has to keep doing this test. Just to bad there was'nt a easier way for them to check. He has been through so much already.

Catheter out!!   The test showed a small leak , but not concerning ( per dr). He has been walking everywhere sense. He wore the diapers for about a 4 days, ( only change once a day) just switched to pads,. Goes to the bathroom every hour or hour 1/2. Seems like things are going well . Go back to doctors on the 23rd for follow up and psa read. That will be 6 weeks after surgery. After the 6 week psa, How often there after is psa taken? Also going to post the biopsy report. Maybe could get some help translating that.

For me first year PSA was every 3 months. 2nd year moved to 4 months. Now I have graduated to every 6 months.

Well, the urges to go pee will subside with time, usually. I know I went a lot at first. My doc explained that I had been sliced and diced inside and the nerves and sensations that normally triggered pee impulses had been altered. It would take some time for the bladder and the brain to reconnect and understand each other with the new setup. He was right, I go much longer now before getting the urge, and the 'gotta go right now' is gone, so I can hold it longer, which helps to restretch the bladder to hold larger volumes again. So it probably will get easier for him as he goes along.
