Biopsy in two weeks

Results are back. Cancer. Right now all I know is Gleason 3+3, 5% in one of 5 cores. So - off we go. Setting up CAT scan for soon, need to start digesting options in the meantime. Really not in favor of surgery, both proton and HDR have looked promising to me in my current research. Did a lot of reading over the past few weeks while waiting for the biopsy and results. Strangely calm - it will likely hit like a bus sometime soon?

Well, welcome to our little club. You are not alone here and it appears you have a jump on this thing, so good for you. Yep, when the doc told me, I had to calm him, LOL and that was real weird for me. Then, later that night, the disbeleif wore off. Not real sure of your situation with family/friends, but you may have some mood swings you might need to explain, or you might just be fine and start dealing with it. Good news, it seems to me you caught it real early and have plenty of options. So learn as much as you can and keep us posted on your success.

Sorry to hear that it was cancer.  We are here to support you.

None of us is a physician who is expert in prostate cancer, but as you've already discovered there is a lot of good information here regarding treatment options, second opinions, etc.

Sorry to hear the Dx, Leroy but you obviously have a jump on it and caught it early on. Best of luck to you in making the decision on your treatment options.  Be well....

Sorry to have you aboard, but with only five cores taken, I'd have to say that was some "good shootin'" by the urologist.  Others have advised the same:  Get Patrick Walsh's "Surviving Prostate Cancer" and start reading.  I guess my reaction back then (as a newbie, recently diagnosed) was, "this can't be me."  Don't beat yourself up, or feel too overwhelmed - there are many here to help you and the path is well lit.

Thanks all - calm still there, but definitely being replaced by fear of the unknown, along with just plain old fear. One thing that has changed my mood is researching the "staging" that i have so far. With the T2a, I initially felt a bit more relieved than I do now that I've read and digested a bit. I'm hoping that the one core he did hit was a good representative of my overall case, and that the CATscan shows good news on any spreading. I'll go book shopping soon.

So my urologist has sent in for an OK on CT scan. I see so much here about bone scans - should I be getting that too, or will CT see the whole deal? Can't believe I have to wait for some group to say it's ok to check me out? Trying to keep focused, but all I feel like doing is trying to sleep.

I would ask for the bone scan. No reason not to get the whole picture. It will basically show if the cancer has mestatasized (sp?) and it is quick and painless. Just my .02.

@Startech - yeah, I'll talk to urologist about it. Hard to get talking to this guy, he's kind of in and out, only have met him three times now, so little connection going on. I just want to make sure I get the right info as I'm searching for options. How's your decision making coming along? It looks like you're at that point?
