I've never known exactly what to think about
chiropractic treatment. I know chiropractors are sometimes successful in relieving back pain, but I've always been less than convinced about
some of the other pseudo-scientific claims that chiropractic makes.
Yesterday at a "farmer's market," I was handed a "vertebral subluxation and nerve chart" by a young guy representing a chiropractic group, with an offer of two treatments, including x-rays, for just $20. I've seen these charts in the past, but never paid much attention to them. I put the paper in my pocket and didn't look at it again until this morning.
Then I noticed that on the spinal diagram, this nerve chart linked T10 with kidney function, T11 with with kidneys and ureters, L5 with lower legs, ankles, and feet; and, most interestingly, L4 with prostate gland, muscles of the lower back, and sciatic nerve. Problems with the L4 disc were said to produce possible symptoms such as difficult, painful, or too frequent urination, as well as backaches and sciatica.
My most serious back problem occurred about 15 years ago. An MRI at that time showed bulging or herniated discs at T!0/11 and L4/5. In truth, I've had problems with that lower back area (L4/5) since my mid 20's.
Logic tells me this is all just a coincidence, but wouldn't it be interesting if that decades-long disc problem at L4/5, in particular, created a long-term condition in the prostate that allowed cancer to develop?
OK, this is way too simplistic, but it's something I haven't seen discussed here before. I'm just throwing it out there for what it's worth.
