I need a biopsy, but due to my urinary symptoms I fear a normal 12-core biopsy will only make my life more miserable. I would like to do this only once and get it over with. John T mentioned in one of his posts a Dr. Bahn in Ventura, CA. I'm wondering if this is the one: CLICK HERE. Any other information on the Color Doppler Ultrasound targeted biopsy would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: changed subject from "Color Doppler biopsy" to "Color Doppler Ultrasound," which I believe is the correct term.

If it helps, I am a huge fan of having a color doppler directed biopsy by Dr. Bahn or is mentor Dr. Fred Lee. Blood flow to cancerous areas, as seen by that tech, is an important aspect of that procedure as well as specific areas of the prostate that may seem irregular.

I'm a believer in color doppler...........my husband had one last year by Dr Fred Lee in MI.....they told him be prepared for a biopsy,Dr Lee saw no suspicious areas,we also got to watch the monitor & Dr Lee explained what he was seeing...........you can't go wrong w/Dr Lee or Dr Bahn in my opinion...........Cooper wink

You have the correct Dr Bahn - very well known in the area.  Know of numerous men who have seen him for the color doppler.  His speciality in prostate cancer treatment is cryosurgery.

Just to releave you some on the wah-wah issues. I had total urinary blockage from PCa and from emergency room forwarded to (LOL- brilliant uro-doc...whom was more brilliant at making money than knowing everything he should on PCa and caring for patients).
Anyway my 12/12 biopsies without anethestic (he never mentioned I had possible choices and never mentioned how many I was getting in 2002, he pause after #6 and I thought whewwww it's over...nope got 6 more he said (ouch). Anyway I was put on flowmax cause of urinary issues the day of emergency room blockage, flowmax worked great on me and even though catheter installed that day (I removed it myself after like 7 days, even though genius uro thought 2 weeks was my destiny, I felt excellent and was correct). His biopsies never effected my urinary stream that I could tell and I didn't even go through the big bleeding scene in my case (that was the good part). So, maybe your thinking on this issue is more fear than possible reality...of course no guarantees even from your doc, let alone comparing to my journey. Dr. Lee and Bahn and a few others are the ones to see for CDS with or without biopsies. Best to you.

Color doppler seems reasonable enough. I would not presume to tell you what to do. I had four biopsies, including a 30 sample biopsy, without side effects. As for color doppler, it is quite controversial. I am sure that it has saved some lives. But there is evidence that generally, it is no more reliable than the run-of-the-mill ultrasound you get with an office biopsy. Nobody knows whether color doppler is really better than gray scale, but I think that we do know that it misses some cancers.

Dr. Fred Lee, a PC survivor, demonstrated his form of CDU to leading PC Dr.s years ago at seminars in the US. No problem if anyone doubts it's ability to recognize blood flow to the cancer or it's ability to designate areas of concern because of same. Call an unbiased man that helps all with PC and ask his opinion, Rick Profit at PAACT.

I am impressed because I believe in technology.  NOTE: Dr. Lee has enhanced his CDU process within the last year.

I think the tool is only as useful as the doctor using it.

You may want to check on the known experts and see if your insurance will cover the travel & costs. Mine would not - they consider it no better than what I could get from a local facility. I didn't know about it until long after my biopsy & surgery, but I did ask just to see what the opinion was.

I certainly would not have choked up extra money to travel and pay it as out-of-network, considering that I had no symptoms, and the whole cancer thing couldn't happen yet again.
