rowlinrock,
I have very similar stats to yours. I'm 54 yrs old with a PSA of 3.5 and 1 of 14 cores positive with <5% Gleason 6. I was also overwhelmed by the treatment choices. A number of doctors recommended active surveillance, but no way is that for me. The size of my prostate and current urinary symptoms eliminated radiation as a choice, so that left me with surgery. After visiting a number of excellent doctors, I've decided on
open surgery which will be done in about
3 weeks.
You should ask your doctor about
how many surgeries he's done, will he do your entire surgery and what are his outcomes, including his rate of positive margins and rates of recovery of continence and erectile function and how long to the recovery of each. Also, what percent of his patients go on to need subsequent therapy and what percent have any complications during and after surgery.
Take your time and make a choice that you'll be comfortable with. Once you make that choice, some of the anxiety will abate. This forum is a great resource, don't hesitate to use it.
Best of luck.
