First PSA test after 44 IMRT treatments.

Hello all,

Received the results from my first PSA today in the mail.  I had my last RT treatment on Oct 4th. I'm also on casodex daily and lurpron every 4 months. I have an appointsment with both med onc and rad onc on Thursday the 10th. Many of y'all said not to expect a low number so soon. I prepared myself prior to opening the letter thinking maybe a 3. or 4 but it's a 0.010. Now I don't know what to think.  Your thoughts please.  Thanks

The hormonal therapy is working. When a body is depleted of the T levels it's not uncommon for the PSA to drop completely out. I can name a few cases where the PSA was over 1,000 and after HT alone it was zero.

Congratulations! That's a very impressive start, sure most of that is the result of the HT working in you, hopefully making it easier for the RT to be effective in its job..

Those numbers translate to "undetectable"..You are in the Zero club! That's the kind of response we all hope for..

ZERO CLUB???? I'm not worthy of that just yet. But thanks, I do hope to be there someday and would be proud to buy the rounds for the club! Thanks guys! I have hope.

I would not consider you in the zero club yet. The drop in psa as Tony said is due to the HT. The real test is 6 months after you stop HT. Your current psa levels indicate that your cancer is reacting favorably to HT and there is a significant survival advantage to those whose psa nadir drops to below .05 while on HT.

I'd say Zero Club, but maybe on probation.
Shows just how effective HT can be at shutting things down.

I dropped PSA from 59 to <.1 in the first 90 days on HT. As John T says the real test comes after HT is stoped and the T levels start going up. If there is any cancer left, it will likely respond to the newfound food and start raising the PSA indicating a recurrance.

Splitting hairs?

I think a non-zero-club member is one who needs treatment to get to zero. berth is a zero club member. His PSA is zero. Is it the HT? Is it the RT? C'mon guys. bertb should be cautious but yes everything is working perfectly and he has some excellent results...

I vote that you qualify for Zero Club. Your numbers are good, and that means your treatment is working, even better than some of us pessimists predicted.

I think you are doing well. Keep doing what you are doing.
