I see an example of what my uro/surgeon was talking about
here.
He sent my slides to Bostwick, even though my (big national) insurance company insists on using their associated lab. Needless to say that created billing issues. I asked "why Bostwick", and the answer was multipart. He and uses them for all biopsies, and knows the pathologists. Thus he has a baseline of what to expect. Next, they provide a fixed format medical kit so that everything is as they expect. I had plenty of time to look at it which I was waiting on the table, labels pre-fixed, in a packing so that things were in the right order, etc. No fiascos like the news we saw about a surgeon reusing parts.
I didn't know at the time that Bostwick was any different from any other lab, but the system was impressive. I asked him about the grading in my last visit, since you had posted lately. His comments - The scale they grade to is a fixed diagram. The ability of the person to match what he sees to the scale is where experience comes in. So he is not satisfied that the slides go to a specific lab - he wants to know which pathologist did the work.
Mine were never sent to the "associated lab". I have no idea what they might have said. Likewise, if sent to the same lab twice, who does the work?
I get the understanding that it is like all skills. Taught is one thing, experience is another.
