Lam,
My DaVinci/robotic surgery was in October 2009. I got the standard "most patients regain continence over time".
It is also interesting to ask your urologist what he thinks "continence" means. As patients, we like the "Leak Free, Pad Free" definition, but I think that is rarely what the doctors mean.
I was down to two, sometimes only one, pad per day at the time I started my IGRT, late April 2010. Since I was told that radiation was likely to have an impact on continence, I had to accept a possibility that it would not get any better. In fact, it got worse, but now, about 18 months post-RT, I am improved, back at that generally one pad, frequently two, rarely three per day level.
I still do the Kegels, and still am very careful about food and drink that are known to cause bladdder irritation. I guess I am not one of "most patients". I do not consider myself "continent".
(My post-op pathology was T3a, with multiple EPE and positive margins, Gleason 4+5.)
