Any Recent HIFU Experiences?

Hi all..

Got the bad news this week and am in the learning and investigative stage - there's certainly no shortage of options..:)

I did a search here and the HIFU threads go back about 5 years..

was hoping to hear some more experiences - what is the current cost of having it done in Germany or Italy vs Toronto??

You mentioned Germany, Italy and Canada. Are you looking at ablatherm only, or also the sonabate?

I ask, because a friend of mine in FL knows quite a bit of the sonablate 500.

If you are looking at HIFU, I suggest you also look at Targeted Focal Therapy using cryosurgery . The approach is the same, but using a different modality to kill the cancer. I have included the University of Colorado Urologic Oncology Program website. They do TFT cryo and have ongoing research on HIFU.

From what I've seen the latest data on HIFU is not all that encouraging from the standpoint of cancer control. But with a small G6 tumor and relatively low PSA it might not matter much either way. Go to pubmed.com and do a search there. You can read the abstracts for free.
