Ryan O'Neal Diagnosed With Cancer

Nearly three years after losing his longtime partner Farrah Fawcett to cancer, Ryan O'Neal reveals he has recently been diagnosed with a strain the disease.

"Recently I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer," O'Neal tells People in a statement.

"Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate that it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery, I am deeply grateful for the support of my friends and family during this time, and I urge everyone to get regular check-ups, as early detection is the best defense against this horrible disease that has afflicted so many."

O'Neal, 70, was diagnosed and treated once before for leukemia, a disease he was able to overcome in the late nineties.

Bad luck for the guy, but I'm a bit surprised that being diagnosed at stage 4 is described by him as "having been caught early"!

Stage 4, eh? Unfortunately, I guess one could say that Mr. O'Neal's experience is exactly the way the US Preventive Services Task Force thinks the system should work. At least he wasn't "unnecessarily" screened, biopsied, and overtreated.

Oops. Does that sound sarcastic?

I wish him well and hope that he's right about the full recovery. If it's truly Stage 4, I wish it had been found much earlier.

yeah clock, okay to be sarcastic on that subject, perhaps they would prefer all men to be stage 4 with mets before considering treatment. they would eliminate all this nonsense about overtreatments.
