its been 2 months now (Lupron and Casodex). I get all the hot flashes (pretty severe), night sweats, trouble sleeping, wondering what all the hu-bub about sex is all about.....that I expected.

but has anyone gotten the pins and needles feeling during a hot flash, like you want to scratch your skin off???? I never heard of that one, but its been happening lately

Yup I get the same SE's.

But the pins and needles - no have not experienced. Suggest talk with your medical team on that one.

For night sweats - what helps is to have a fan on in the room. Some nights my night sweats are much worse than other nights, I've yet to figure out anything (other than the drugs) that trigger

Trouble sleeping - a glass of wine right before bed. Or 2 Ibuprofen. <sp?>. I've been told melatonin can also help, have yet to try that.

Than there is the want to go shoe shopping ...grins

Hang in there brother, I figure the SE's mean the treatment is working. That helps a bit to put up with the SE's

Not saying this is the case, not a doctor, but with certain meds, the pins and needle reaction can be a sign of a bad reaction to a med. If it were me, I would be getting quickly hold of my doctor, and let them know of this reaction, to make sure its either "normal" or safe Good luck.

Same SE effects as you but without "pins and needles".

Maybe it is time to visit you doctor. If the hot flashes are really bothering you they can prescribe an antidepressant like venlafaxine. This drug has a curious side effect of reducing hot flashes for some men. I have been tolerating my hot flashes without it, but I know it is there if it becomes really bad.

My advice is daily exercise and a experiment with you sleeping arrangements. I can get a pretty good nights sleep by keeping the room as cool as possible, using a light sheet for covering myself, and careful placement and setting of a room fan.

thanks All - got most of these bases covered (except shoe shopping, but I also just can't find anything to wear!!!!). Will be talking to the docs about the Pins and needles if they persist much longer.

Hoping for a big drop in the PSA next week at my 3 month mark ( lupron shot to follow - dam that needle hurts!)

Keeping faith,

My husband just had his 2nd Lupron injection yesterday and there was a new nurse who did the injection.She told us she was going to pinch the skin really hard so he wouldn't feel it much and that worked.
He is sore today however, but just a suggestion!

He is also expeirencing hot flahes and sadness but he can usually get out of it rather quickly when I remind him that we can't go there. We have to stay positive.
Haven't had the pins and needles although.

Helpful hint for those getting a Lupron shot from one with lots of experience.  Take the weight off your foot on the side of the injection.  It relaxes the hip muscle.  No pain during or afterward.
