Whats the meaning of your HW name?

This was a great thread, thanks for starting it. Often wondered what was behind a person's name or handle.

I have been asked about mine a number of times, and honestly, most don't quess correctly.

Purgatory. Been on the net since 1995, and only have used two handles. For years, I was Passat, as I owned a number of highly modified VW Passats. Then in 2002, at age 50, I became a Catholic and went through the process of becoming a full fledge Roman Catholic. In my theological studies of Catholic dogma, among other things, I studied the subject of Purgatory.

So I stopped using Passat (as I no longer owned any), and adopted the name "Purgatory".

Many think its because of my twisted and uncertain PC journey, but can honestly say, there is no connection to my PC, or any other medical malady.

So I have been using Purgatory for about 10 years now. In reality, with this horrible past couple of years of dealing with all the pain, and all the setbacks I have endured in the name of cancer treatments, one could argue that I am in a purgatory of sorts. It certainly isn't heaven or hell, the life I live, its a bit of both at times, lol.

So that's my story, and I am sticking to it.

My id is from the Pasayten Wilderness in Washington... Where I have spent many years riding/packing horses and now back to hiking... My nickname to friends was Pasayten Pete... the Pete came fromn my last name Peterson.

'Creed' was my adult daughter's favourite band in her teenage years. Now that daughter has long left home there are three of us left (with the dog). Our 6 year old is now 12 yrs old, and getting ready for high school next year.  In addition to sentimental reasons, the name 'creed' seemed to also hold some symbolic meaning regarding positive life values which we hold, so it kind of fits us still.

I spent 31 years being a Park Ranger in the State Parks in California, and I retired in 2003 out of Calaveras Big Trees State Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains (and previously worked in parks with the coastal Redwoods--also Sequoias). Calaveras Big Trees was the first place the giant Sequoias were discovered and became the first "tourist attraction" and the beginning of California's "tourist" industry (obviously the trees could not be transported to where most people live, so visitors had to be enticed to come up to the mountains) in 1853. I worked gold-mining ghost towns, Native American heritage sites, historic ships, beaches, deserts, islands, and mountains. I liked the Big Trees assignment the best.

I am a deep shipwreck diver and we use "Trimix" for our dives. Trimix in diving is a mixture of Oxygen, Helium and Nitrogen, i.e. Trimix.

When I picked that name, I did not even know about the "Trimix" that I would eventually be using for ED, funny how that worked out.

Curt, way back when, I was a US Navy Deep Sea Diving Officer (HeO2). I'm not even certain Tri-mix for diving had been developed; the USN certainly wasn't using it.

I suspect that no too many folks here were Mk V divers ...

That is completely unrelated to my forum name, which I'll explain later.

OK, finally.

I was a skydiver for about 17 years, and my name is David. The guys I played Ultimate with tagged me with the nickname Skydaver.

What's sorta kinda funny is if you see my avatar photo on Twitter (I use Skydaver every where), you'll see an old picture of me when I was in USN diving school.

blownsideways - Something I said to my wife soon after getting my diagnosis: "I feel like I've been blown sideways into someone else's life."

I believe it was Evelyn Waugh who commented that he didn't mind dying so much, except that he would not be able to read the Times each day.

Mine is my younger brothers gamer tag. When he passed away I took it in his honor and now use it on all things Internet related.
