ASCO Meeting in Chicago

The media has been covering the current conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists in Chicago. There is positive news coming out of this conference relative to malignant melanoma,  breast cancer and others.  Yet I hear nothing - not a word about prostate cancer.

Anyone have any encouraging news or thoughts on this subject?

I think that J&J's Zytiga (a.k.a. abiraterone) was the biggest PC news this year at ASCO.

My husbands oncologist is on you tube being interviewed at the ASCO conference, Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang. He practices in Las Vegas and is incredible. He just put my husband on Zytiga 2 weeks ago. We travel from CT to see him, we just moved to CT from LV 3 years ago this September. Drs we seen in CT knew we traveled back and forth to Vegas and recommended we see Dr. Vogelzang. I can't praise him enough, even responding to my emails over the weekend when was at this conference.

I think the biggest news this year is the study that clearly defines intermittent hormonal therapy as inferior to continuous hormonal therapy in metastatic prostate cancer. To quote a friend "if prostate cancer is in the bones it's time to say good bye to testosterone".

Jitters:
The friend I just quoted is the one and only Dr. V. He has been my oncologist for more than five years and is a regular at my UsTOO meetings giving his time to us. He will be presenting the ASCO meeting highlights in September. People come from all over to get in his office and I am fortunate enough to live around the corner from him. He's in Chicago right now and I've had about half a dozen correspondences with him in the last few days. A very good man and an excellent researcher...

There was some news on Enzalutamide (formerly MDV3100).
