undressing in front of nurse?

I can related to being naked in front of a woman nurse. When I went to the Uro for my first Trimix injection, he called in the 2 female PAs to watch how he did it.

Speaking as the husband of an R.N., and as someone who has associated with a lot of female R.N.s over the last 40 years, I just want to say that I've never met a nurse who finds any of this nakedness sexually arousing in the slightest.  Similarly, I have a brother who's an OB/GYN, and he assures me there's nothing sexually arousing for him about examining women's private parts all day long.

At one point after surgery, my R.N. wife and a hospital nurse worked together on a catheter problem I was having, during which I was naked from the waist down.  I wasn't embarrassed, and neither was my wife or the young nurse.  It's just part of their business, and not all that pleasant a part, either.

These folks have seen it all, are used to seeing the human body in every shape and form, and I think we can all relax and tone down any concern about being unclothed in their presence.

Of course, Just focus on the real issue and try to stay positive thru it all. When and if you go for treatments try and stay upbeat and bring those that are down up with you. It gives hope to all.

Wiggy, My son was 34 after my surgery and I advised him that at his yearly checkup he needed a PSA. I also told him I would pay for it if his Insurance would not pay for it.

He told his Dr that he would like a PSA and the DR questioned why and when my son explained that we had a long history in PCa in the family the Dr said you will get a PSA and insurance will cover it.

He now has a base line. Oh and the Dr said "Your Dad's a smart man to have you get a base line." Sometimes we get it right.

I too am sorry for what your husband went thru, but unfortunately with prostate cancer it kinda comes comes with the territory. After my surgery failed, I had a consult with the radiation oncologist.....I brought my girlfriend to the appoinment. We were  in the exam room about 10 minutes when the doc walks in  along with a trainee (intern-this is teaching hospital), trips on the trash can and almost falls over, scared both me and my girlfriend.Anyway,we all talk about treatment options and possible outcomes for a while, then the doc says to pull down my pants and grab the table ...he has to do a DRE...  quite a thourough one, then the intern repeats it !! My girlfriend was quite surprised to say the least, for me just another day living with prostate cancer. Later we laughed about the whole thing...felt sorry the doctor almost hit the floor. BTW, this was at a major center of excellence.

How about a couple ER trips after using trimix? That is a whole new level of exposure! shocked The first time I had to go the ER check-in desk and explain why I was there .. that was interesting. The second visit, a young nurse put an IV in me and I immediately deflated. She was jokingly angry ... she had never that effect on men before. My wife and I still laugh about those experiences. The biggest problem is they are really funny stories and I cannot tell them to anyone  .. just not a good cocktail party topic.

It is a constant amazement to me that people drag up and respond to these threads as if that original poster had been sitting anxiously waiting for a response since 2008 sad

More often that not it will be a spammer picking up on a keyword from a google search.

There has been a discussion about locking old threads to avoid this, but the arguments are pretty balanced on both sides.

Sometimes I mention it if the new poster seems to be expecting a response. I check the previous poster's profile to see when they last logged in (any member can do the same thing). Very often they will have not logged in for years.

I have to say that part was very professional for me...Never had to lower my pants for radiation...just had to slide them down underneath a towel once I got on the table to get the buckle out of the way. During my Biopsy it was done entirely by the male doctor although a nurse was watching...even then I slid my pants down at the last minute.

One thing I was upset with was with my cliniacl study team....they had to do a DRE every month and the first time he did one...He handed me a bunck of towels and told me to clean up while the 2 nurses and he were still in the room.

I must say I felt uncomfortable wiping grease out of my asss while 3 people were watching. I told the Dr. the next time beforehand and they left the room to let me clean up in private.

When I had my biopsy done it was only me and my urologist in the room, he explained to me what he was going to do step by step and then as he was taking samples he would ask me if I was ok.Yes he even wiped my butt!
Then afterwards my wife was using the restroom and I was waiting in the hallway,he happened to walk by and noticed that I was standing there with tears running down my face.He stopped to tell me I'm going to be ok.I wasn't even actually thinking about if I had cancer,I was just overwhelmed by what just happened.

talk about an oxymoron, modesty at the uro's. Just suck it up and get used to it. I, like most others have my own stories but bottom line by the time you hopefully get cured, you probably won't remember worrying about being seen naked. Like most others I would rather not undress in front of stangers even if they were naked too, but.........
But one story sticks in my mind which always, and still, has me scrathing my head, before pc, the then uro, acted like he was embarressed and would leave the room and knock to be just I was ready before the DRE? I mean, come on man, you're like a proctologist who seems embarrassed about look at a rear end? But on the other hand maybe that's why they invented clothes?

For the true newbies, we almost all start with a good sense of personal privacy.
After two biopsies and multiple DRE's, for me the sense faded considerably.
After the cystoscopy, it was a dim, distant memory.

You have to make sacrifices to fight the monsters, and personal privacy is one of the sacrifices.

You have options in dealing with PCa, but maintaining privacy in the doc's office is off the table, so if it helps, know we all have no privacy with the white coats (or blue/green jumpsuits)

Funny but true story... Before my biopsy, I didn't really look at my nurse closely, since I had other things on my mind. After the procedure, she helped me sit up and gave me a couple of warmed, damp towels for cleanup. I then noticed that she was my sons high school 'riding to school' rider, who he took to school for 3 years. She had already finished college, married and had a couple kids, but it was her. She said she didn't know if I wanted to acknowledge a familiar face in my situation, so she hadn't re-introduced herself to me. By the time I was done wiping my butt with her towels and struggling to keep the hospital gown on right, I had lost most of my modesty, so I told it it wasn't such a big deal. We shared a lot of nudity together-well, actually- I shared mine with her- after that, and she is still my nurse when I am back for my tests and such.

Funny, now that I think on it, my FP's nurse is an old high school friend, the uro's nurse, mentioned above, is a neighborhood friend. Guess I better look closer at my Endo nurse. blush

Wiggyann, I read this thread today and hope all is well for your husband.  I think all of us as patients appreciate some gentleness.  This nurse seemed to be lacking in several ways.  Then there is the sanitary seat issue.  Oh, my...  You wrote:

Obviously this 4-year old thread has been open much too long. It was not intended to be a joke in any sense, so Mel is getting edited. Since it has taken that turn, I'm going to do what should have been done a couple of years ago, and lock it.
