As someone who is fortunate enough to have full health care in both the US and Canada, I have to throw in my 2 cents. Both systems have great doctors and lousy ones. According to a plastic surgeon I spoke to last week (Canadian) while he was clawing at my face, the support staff in the states (nurses etc.) are far more compassionate and work twice as hard for less money than Canadian counterparts (don't blame me, I didn't say it!), but for me the biggest difference is access. My local GP will always see me within 24 hours and it takes longer in the states for me. Health care premium for wife and I in Canada is $119 monthly, and does not cover prescription drugs. I have yet to find an online Canadian pharmacy that will send me drugs in Canada. They only ship outside our borders.Wait times vary depending where you live. It took me 3 weeks for arthroscopic knee surgery but I couldn't have an MRI because that was a 6 month wait. Knee surgeon's comment was "What's the difference, I'm sticking a camera down there anyway!" It was 8 weeks for open RP (waiting for biopsy to heal) , 6 days in the US for a biopsy after a US urologist said "Your PSA is low, (2.1) but I want to give you a biopsy anyway" That guy saved my life. Bottom line to me, for serious illness, I'll take either system, both being among the best in the world. If I have a cold it's a toss up. I see the Dr quicker in Canada, but I don't have to pay for the drugs in the US. The grass is not greener on either side of the border, just different.
