Just started my Adjuvant IGRT today, not looking forward to the daily grind of getting to the rad onc everyday, but looking forward to the end,--seven weeks or so from now. Wish me luck.

Good luck. It is a grind to get through it all and not the most fun you'll ever have.

But you can make it.

Yes. Best of luck!

I had 40 Gy about six months ago. It's a grind, to be sure, especially since I had to drive 45 minutes each way to get zapped. But I *NEEDED* it, as an expanding tumor was growing into my bladder! I had virtually NO side effects except extreme fatigue (more lack of stamina---the least effort of motion had me breathing hard and "worn out" quickly).

At this early stage, you *MIGHT* be able to zap it all and be "cured". In my case the tumor was duly "de-bulked", but the Gleason 9 monster then jumped to my bones and now I am on Taxotere chemo.

George,

You have to tell yourself, that radiation is an endurance contest. I went through 35 rounds in 2000, and 39 rounds in 2009, you will get into a groove after the first week, and you will look forward to the break on the weekends after a while. Hope for your sake, that any side effects will be minimal and delayed as much as possible.

Best of luck, and hope that radiation finishes off any remaining cancer for you.

Turner,

I did 25 sessions of IGRT a couple of months after BT. They are probably asking you to drink 16-20 ounces of water prior to each session. You may want to plan on a route home that will include some bathroom stops along the way since you my experience some frequency issues. Also expect some fatigue to set in after treatment 15-16. I hope your case is different but fatigue seems a fairly common SE. The good news is that it goes away 5-6 weeks after the last treatment. Best wishes,

I have 7 left of 45 and today's plan dialed in between the pelvic bones with 5 long blasts. Went fishing after at the end of a pier and felt that a BM was coming on. Immediately started walking and set down to do my thing. Found out undies were soiled a little...very depressing but after failed surgery and incontinence this is one more demeaning side affect but I have no choice but to continue on.

This is a very humiliating and humbling disease. One that I am sure I will be with me the rest of my life.

George, I wish you well in your journey. It appears so far that the IGRT did the trick for me. I hope you have success. I felt great the first two weeks and then the fatigue set in, but I was spared most of the other SE.

We (husband) just completed 44 rounds 2 weeks ago.

I remember the first day and thinking about how long we would be staying in a city away from home.

It seemed forever, but looking back, it went quick!

Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. Week one is behind me and so far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Fairwind, my rad onc did not suggest HT. I think this is because my PSA is still undetectable. That is an arrow I hope to leave in the quiver. The main reason I'm doing adjuvant radiation is because of my t3a pathology.

Hang in there. If you can do one week, you can do it all. It is and endurance test but you'll get there.

Just wanted to give a quick update on my IGRT. Three treatments left. No major issues to report, some urgency and some minor bowel issues. I've been able to keep riding my bike through this, only missing about four days due to fatigue. Which is a good thing sisnce I'm riding the Livestrong challenge here in Philly on Sunday. 45 miles--wish me luck.
