thanks andrew, rather not share all my unpleasant and depressing thoughts at the moment, you would think that at least once, i could get a needed break - even the law of averages would make one think so, but guess its not meant to be for me.

i will get over this, as i have to do everything else, then, what's next? lol.

David – this is just not right - all this bad luck you are experiencing.

I'm not so sure on that second part. I'm leaning that when you get that break, it will be a big break so you regress back to the mean....

What a disappointment. I'm sorry and saddened to read this.

 yeah, I suspect you are right about scans. With all that scar tissue, I would guess scans would be terribly confusing.

Hope they can figure something else out.

Man, that is tough! Sorry the "flip of the coin" landed on the wrong side for you. I'm crossing my fingers there *IS* a "next time" and your uro will find a way to help you out.

Sorry David, I was hoping that your UTI would go away, that you would be able to do the surgery and get the sample you needed and the biopsy results gave you the all clear.

Unfortunately only the first hope came true but I still hold out for the third.

David, John and I are so sorry to read of your latest set back...darn, but you can't catch a break, can you?

Question: do you know if a PET scan would be of any value at this point? I know it can detect primary and metastatic tumors but am not sure if it has any value for your bladder issues. Just a thought since your uro is concerned with the condition of your bladder and whether there might be some cancerous cells there.

Anyway, I do hope you are recuperating from your ordeal yesterday, and that your pain level is minimal and under control.

So sorry that this scoping was unable to be pulled off. At least it sounds like the UTI cleared up. Rest easy and recover, David.

Yes, thanks to antibiotics are working - UTI under control. Still bleeding slightly, fresh blood, but than my privates sure got reamed out yesterday. A little less sore this morning sitting down, I will be fine by tommorow. Have a followup by the uro middle of next week, and my next visit to oncologist has been moved for 2 weeks from today. had an appt with him for this morning, but didn't feel well enough to drive that far.

thanks to each one posting. when i was reading the preface to the new Walsh book, something stood up to me, the writer said "that each case of PC is unique, as unique as a person's fingerprints". i totally agree, there is no normal among our folks, there may be similar situations, but never exactly the same. my journey, though mostly has been one unpleasant thing after the next, is uniquely mine. for good or for bad.

David,

Very sorry that they could not move forward yesterday, it just seems like a black cloud is following you on the journey. You have a great team of Physican's caring for you, and I feel that they will work together to find another solution to get some answers for you, and another plan of treatment. Do you ever feel like your a part of the old Hew Haw song that had the line "if It weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"?

You are a real fighter David, please don't give up looking for the right combination to get better.

thanks kerry for the good words.

stubborn enough by nature, not to give up easy on things, kind of that way with everything i do. if my mind is made up about a particular subject, i can be pretty unmovable, despite whatever obstacles are thrown at my feet.

Sorry to hear the news. You must be terribly disappointed, having gone through everything, now in pain and bleeding for almost nothing. You did learn, however that the route your surgeon took is not available, which is not good news, but it is information that needed to be found out before you can plan the next step. So, not totally in vain. Hopefully your bleeding stops soon and the rest helps you feel better. Again, sorry this did not work out for you.

hi David, I thought of you several times yesterday, and hoped you would come out OK. I realize you wanted some results, but in the end, the doctors couldn´t do the surgery, this does not mean that you have bladder cancer, which would be much worse news. The only thing I can say, in this day and age of modern medicine, scans, etc, the anxiety of everything is so high. I look at my Dad and through the stories he writes about his childhood in a European village after WW2, doctors were far away, and you went to them only when it was a life-death situation. They lived, and then they died. Not good, of course, but at least they did not have all this stress either.

I have no good advice, but I hope that some day you will be able to put this situation with the bladder behind you, and move on. It sure will take time, but I do believe by the end of this year you will be able to say: "Yes, I remember those horrible times, and I am a stronger person now that I went through it." Hope your doctor will have another good idea.

gleason - thanks my friend. yes, we will never make another surgerical attempt through the bladder neck, it was already destroyed pretty much by the blotched radiation, and the 1 1/2 years or so since the last time it was opened, was plenty of time for the passage to become a solid fused mass. disapointed was the key word for sure, i was so hoping to beat the odds for once. i remember when i first started coming to in the recovery room, i reached down with my hand, hoping to find a catheter coming out of my penis, but instead, brought back finger tips with fresh blood instead. i knew instantly that the surgery had failed. we dont always get what we want, that's for sure.

spec lady - it doesnt answer the questions about bladder cancer at all, back to square one, the normal means of finding out obviously aren't there for me, so it will make it much more difficult to determine at any point

thought i was doing ok this morning, took it real easy. then, i thought i was ok to drive 3 miles to walmart to pick up a few things (mega superwalmart). big mistake, got so wore out so fast, nearly passed out a couple of times, wrapped things up, got home. took my first pain meds of the day, and going to call it a day. its hard for me to just sit or lay around and do nothing nothing. always feel i need to be doing something useful.

thank you jim and jeff. a full day later, i am bouncing back, scheming my available options, making medical appointments. most of the hurt is easing, perhaps another day or two and will be back to what is "normal" for me. any additional pain on top of my usual chronic pain, is a bit much to handle, but i am still here, ready to move forward, regardless of yesterday's disapointments.

i am so thankful for the support of my wife, my children, my friends in my little world, my brother's and sister's here at HW for nearly 4 years now. Without all of the above, I don't think I could still stand on my own 2 feet. I know I am not alone, fighting this hideous beast we call PC. If my treatments against the beast hadn't turned so sour, I still wouldn't know this cancer existed in me, except as numbers on a piece of paper, funny how things can be that way.

as i ended a post in another thread above, i live to fight another day

gold horse, don't worry, not giving up by any means, just needed time to re-coup and re-group, going on to plan "b". i see my uro next tuesday, my oncologist the wednesday after next week, and see what we can come with. will also get a new psa number, but that doesnt remotely concern me, my psa is the least of my troubles. thanks.
