Had almost forgot this important milestone for me. It was four-years ago on this date, that I met with my urologist to find out the bad news. He was jammed tight that day at his practice, and I was his last patient of the day. He got hung up on an emergency phone call after I arrived, making it about
6:30 PM before he came into the room to talk to me.
I could tell by the look in his face what the answer was going to be. This was after my 3rd biopsy in a little over a year, the one I have mentioned before, that on the 2nd biopsy, he spotted some suspicious shadows in the left side of my prostate. So he did 7 cores into the shadows, and came up 7 positive, ranging from 40% to 90% pure, Gleason 7 (4+3).
We didn't get to talk long that first meeting, as he had to race off to some scheduled doctor's meeting with his practice, we met at length about a week later. We didn't really discuss treatment options that night, other than listing them off out of a guide he left me with. This came at the next meeting.
The hardest part, was sitting in my car in a dark parking lot, calling my wife on the cell phone and calling her. I was more than emotional, and it took 3 calls for me to spit it out. Being my 4th diagnosis with a dangerous cancer, I was rather upset. She told me just to get home safely.
By the time I got home, the logical side of me took over, and I was able to talk through it without getting upset.
And thus began my very twisted and painful journey, won't repeat any of that here.
