Delaying PSA test

I was told to come back for my PSA test in November. One year after my previous one (11/11).

At the time, with a year of "light" ahead of me I thought that was too long and told myself I would do my next test in July/August 2012 upon my return to the States. Well, it's mid September and I still haven't gone.

Initially I told myself I didn't want to walk through Times Square on a hot and humid NYC day and that I'll wait for a nice fall day. It really hasn't been hot or humid for a few weeks already.

I know it's just a blood test. What I'm wondering, and it won't change much or what I need to do, is if any other people have had this mental block about doing the test. If you've ever delayed it.

I only expect the worse fro this situation. This is partially a personality trait but also the fact that I am still affected by that initial call telling me I had cancer.

I say just do it. Worrying will not change the results and you will feel better knowing where you stand. You will come to a point where the PSA test won't effect you at all. I have never worried about taking the PSA test because as I stated earlier worrying won't change the results.  However, getting the undetectable for the fourth year did cause me to smile and have a few drinks after work. Take the test.

Ditto. Its good for the soul to get hard to do things OFF the check list.

Or, November is just around the corner idea

I've thought of just not doing it - next test will be at Sloan-Kettering at the end of December. At least it won't be hot and humid when I walk from Penn Station up to Sloan. But as WC Fields said, "On the whole I would rather be in Philadelphia."

I have that trouble sometimes. Sometimes I've just got to force myself to do it.

i honestly don't understand the bulk of the psa test anxiety part. i have never felt that way, not even from the start, nor with a current post srt psa of 37 and rising fast as of april. seems like the guys that worry the most are the ones with the lowest and best numbers.

i find worry in general to be a complete waste of time and energy, and its sure not productive worrying about things. just take your test, or set it up to take just once a year, nothing terrible is going to jump up fast and hit you in that length of time, not with your number and situation.

the number is exactly the same right this second, whether you delay the test or take it tommorow, so go for it

I hope to wander into his office for the test next week sometime or the week after at worst. The nicer the weather the better the walk. I'm in Times Square (unfortunately) and the walk up to Central Park South can be nice if the weather is lovely.

I just have a hard time doing it, think of the worst. Wonder if in years to come I will procrastinate even more becaus eof it or learn to conquer the fear of what the test might reveal and just do it.

I do suffer from PSA anxiety (with good reason since mine has been steadily rising).

Yeah, sometimes I out it off but only for a few days.

I wish I had a brownstone in Manhatten,say 79th and Amsterdam, just a tiny studio f for my wife and I……. We love your city, I mean, really love it try to go at least once a year. Davidg, Rome, Manhatten, continent, potent, what am I missing. You have The world by the tail, don,t screw it up with fear ,anxiety and all that crap. Remember Pogo. {google} you know if it is really, really too good to be true, it probably is, that's my thinking, anyways. What say you?

I guess you could look at it from my point of view - I know it is going up, so there isn't any anxiety or stress to speak of. I would be happy if it stopped or went down -

Trying to remember where I lived for a few months years ago - I think it was about 35th? Near a fancy Italian restaurant that I later found out was a hangout for some "very rich and powerful" gentlemen, most referred to as Don ...

I admire you guys that have no PSA anxiety, especially with a rising PSA.

Heck, even if I had all undetectables, I'd probably have some anxiety, worrying if that bubble is going to burst.

Logo - 79th and Amsterdam is ideal. My office used to be next to Lincoln Center and I made the most of it. Lunch runs in Central Park and all the other nice stuff the upper west side has to offer. Being in Times Square now is a drag.

I do hear you guys without PSA anxiety but I just am not wired that way.

Anyway, every day that passes Fall weather is coming and that will get me to the office for that simple blood test. I will "just do it".

Oh I have psa anxiety, I hate em as much as the next guy. Just dont want it ruining my fun. A couple of days , then I get the results I expect and back to the park on a sunday morning, listening to the lady with the flute, watching the magnificent splendor of life that The Apple peels. At least in my mind.
