Yes, I, too, had mouth sores after Taxotere infusions. For the third one I sucked on ice chips DURING the infusion and about
a half-hour afterwards (the "poisoning" of Taxotere is very short-lived--just a few hours) and it SEEMED to help with fewer and lesser mouth issues. But, after each every-three-weeks infusion the SE's became milder anyway. My first two were the hardest.

You might try contacting his dentist for advice. Years ago, when I was having quite a time with recurring mouth ulcers, my dentist gave me some prescript
ion stuff that I had to paint on. It dried and formed a coating on each ulcer that was something like a gauze bandage. It relieved the pain immediately and stopped the burning from contact with foods. I can't remember what it was called, but I have never found anything better. Good luck!

I had mouth irritation. In addition to a prescript
ion rinse, the doc said to gargle with water with salt. I don't know which, but it kept the symptoms tolerable.

My husband also sucked on ice chips throughout the Taxotere infusion. He never had any issue with mouth sores. Don't know if the ice chips worked, but it can't hurt to give it a try.

Tonics,
Do have him try the ice chips. I know of many women who have used this during Taxol based (Taxotere) chemotherapy. This is a very common side effect mitagation technique. I am appalled that every clinic has not adopted this practice to inhibit the neuropathy that occurs when the chemo drugs concentrate in the small capillaries of the jands, feet, mouth and scapl. A good friend of mine just completed Taxotere for breast camcer and her clinic was actually charging patients $500 for a ice skull cap, boots and gloves. They said her insurance wouldn't cover it amd she would have to pay out of pocket. What a racket, they know it works (many people save their hair that way) but make the patient pay..
Anyway, have LOTS of ice, and have him keep it in his mouth through the entire infusion amd for at least 30 min after, or longer if he can. What it does is slow the circulation and inhibit the drug from being absorbed through the endothelial cells that line the blood vessels. It helps with finger nails falling out/turning back, foot/hand sores, etc. It may not stop it completely , but generally helps most patients.
