Great discussion- the idea of a penile implant is interesting and exciting- erection on demand- heaven on earth-

I have tried it all - viagra - pump- injections etc.

Best success has been with the 5 mg daily dose of cialis- however real concern over muscle pain,particularly in the lower legs ( heartburn also but can handle that with acid-reduction medication)

Really concerned about screwing up my golf game- I am out just about every day-

Golf or sex? I pray that I never have to choose-

It's good to know that an implant is an option. Once again I wonder how insurance looks at that kind of surgery. Safe to say that I'm becoming impatient with the healing process (1 year). Yes, Viagra gives me one radical headache and Levitra has little effect.

OK folks. I need some help here.

I have really good sensations in my penis area when I am touched, etc.

I have all of the mental and visual stimulus I need before and during sex.

I have tried 20 mg dosage of the big three- Cialis, Viagra, Levitra and was very

careful to not drink or eat.

No blood flow--- or minimal at best.

I have heard of mixing the 3 drugs is some combinations....has anybody had success with this?

Which ones? Dosage needed? etc.

Any other suggestions will be welcome. I have a willing participant who is known as the Queen of the Prostate at her work place (radiation oncology).

All is good. PSA < .25, I have the leakage under control so I just need blood flow..

John, blood flow probably isn't the problem. The problem most likely is nerve damage that prevents the triggering of the mechanism of erection, which is mechanical by nature of valves and physical by nature of blood flow in and retention, producing an erect penis. Unless the brain sends and body receives the signal to begin the action to cause the penis to become erect, no amount of blood flow will produce an erection. Sorry, that's just the way it is. If you had a RRP, the likelihood of damage to the penile nerve bundles is great.

The biggest effect of blood volume alone would be if veinous leakage is such that the erection can't be maintained. That's a seperate issue though. First you gotta have a workable nerve impulse from the brain to the penis to start the erection process, then the blood flow become important. Damaged nerve bundles- no response or much smaller response.

As far as mixing drugs, that's a question for your doctor. It isn't a good idea, IMO.

All of the oral drugs work in pretty much the same way. Which means they all fail in the same ways, too. They all block the action of the same enzyme -- phosphodiesterase-5. This means that it is not likely that any combination of them will work any better than a good-sized dose of any of them. Once the enzyme is blocked, it is blocked. No point beating a dead horse, so to speak.

As James said, you probably have nerve damage. It is time to talk to your urologist about injections. Since your girlfriend works in the medical field maybe after your urologist teaches you how to inject you could teach her. Then you could just "try to relax and think of England". (Advice Victorian mothers gave to their daughters for coping with sex on their wedding night.)

Your nerves might still recover -- studies have found that nerve damage from RP can still show improvement after up to four years. But in the meanwhile you need to keep the rest of your equipment in working order and injections are probably the best option (ask your doctor).

Mixing the pills would seem to be a very bad idea. Ask your uro before trying such an experiment. I would think he would have some better suggestions for you.

When the nerves are traumatized or damaged, it just takes time for them to recover. At least one surgeon I've read suggests that you keep using a daily dose of an ed pill, or mix the schedule with injections until ...

His theory is also to do some daily stimulation (by hand, by pump) with the idea that the nerves might eventually reconnect (working from both sides) if the pathways still exist. Also, there appear to be a lot of nerves there, and even in a non-nerve sparing operation, some may survive, but take a long time to recover or strengthen enough to be serviceable.

But also understand that this could take years, if it happens.

The 5mg per day Cialis is just a way to take a little less every day (less backache for me) rather than the 20 on-demand. Cialis builds up in your system and remains longer than the others. My uro suggests daily 5mg with a 10 or 20 instead of the 5 on a day you want to "accomplish something", then skip the next day's 5.

Well - my surgeon/Uro did recommend mixing the drugs - cialis in the morning, and viagra at night.  In addition to the 5 mg daily C, he suggested I try occasionally:  10 mg C in the morning, and 50 mg V at night, or, 20 mg C at morning, and 100 mg V at night, and varying the doses.  This was in the first few months post RP.  Unfortunately for me, didn't do much.  Now a year and a half out, I still continue to do this on occasion.  Now on trimix, and it is the ticket.  Just hoping that one day little Willie will react to the pills.

Just an FYI re: one different experience.
