I was thinking about this all day yesterday, yesterday being Veterans Day. Which those of you who are not in the USA may not know its when we, as individuals and a nation, honor all those who served and are serving.

I served in the USAF - 1967 - 1971 - I know that made me a better man than what I was before I enlisted. I give thanks to all who have served and are serving.

Here, we are all part of a band of brothers and sisters - a band without equal.

We are here because we are all fighting this disease.

We fight - we fight this beast

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . We are Prostate Cancer Warriors

We have lost and will lose comrades to the beast, yet those comrades fought/fight bravely, they in many cases enabled treatments we will be embarking on. We honor and remember them.

We fight on, using every weapon available to us.

We speak of intimate things, we wear our hearts on our sleeves.

We draw on the strength and compassion of our band of brothers and sisters here on Healing Well

In turn - we offer our strength and compassion - without reservations - to our brothers and sisters.

We rejoice in our brothers and sisters successes.

For those of us fortunate to have a spouse, we fight on not just for ourselves, also for that person at our side who we, if did not know it before, is our life.

We fight on with the hopes this beast will be tamed for those who follow us.

From my service as a Prostate Cancer Warrior - I hope it has made me a better man. I do try.

Being part of our band of brothers and sisters here - Has made me a better man.

Bud, that is a really nice way to put it. Just exactly how we feel. A different sort of "Band of Brothers!" I am honored to know each and every one of you.

As a veteran myself (Vietnam, 1969-70) (there are a few of us here on the list - Gunfighter, greetingz, are you there?), I just want to repeat something I said in an earlier post: the courage of the men and women on this list is exemplary, as good as any courage ever seen on a battlefield.

I joined this list knowing that I would be making post exchanges with people who were showing great courage, resourcefulness, knowledge and hope in this battle against our common enemy. I have not been one bit disappointed in this. You are all indeed excellent Warriors!

The military analogy is actually rather good. We have strategies, skirmishes, victories, and, yes, some defeats, in our battle against this enemy, but, like a good army, we never lose sight of the ultimate goal: victory.

Our morale remains high, our weapons - medicines and treatments - get better all the time. I can see so many of us raising our own victory flags over this defeated enemy some day.

Have a good Veterans' Day, everyone.

Good piece, Bud, many here, myself included, can truly relate to it.

I am a Viet-Nam vet, U.S. Navy, 1970 & 1971, VP-17

Four-Time Survivor (so far) of dangerous cancers.

Still fighting. For me, the PC is still winning, but the battle isn't over yet.

My worse enemy, and its a vicious fight, is being beyond 2 years now fighting Major Chronic Pain.

May we all have the strength and courage to continue our personal fights.

My salute to all my brother and sister military vets here at HW

BUD--Your eulogy was perfect. With the love and support of our ladies we are a heck of a group of warriors. Lieutenant, Dave, Jerry L, and Bud lets get on the Nancy Quad. 50 and kill the beasts. We are warriors all--army 1968-1969..

Cont'd--Lieutenant as the OIC you'll man the m2 50 Cal on the ring mount, Jerry will drive, Dave will be the gunner in the m55 quad. 50 turret, Bud and gold horse will be the loaders (each keeping 2 50's loaded), and I'll be in the rear with my buckshot loaded m-79 protecting from RPG 2 b40 attacks. Into the valley of death! This lupron is good stuff.

To be very clear - I count our sisters to be Prostate Cancer Warriors just as much as our brothers.

They fight this beast just as hard, maybe harder, than we do.

In so many ways they - our sisters - are the heart and soul of our family here.

Yup Bill Lupron is good stuff, Zytiga is even better!

Your post are so - not sure of the word I want to use - encouraging, inspiring, touching.... We were married in 67 and our "honeymoon" was going to his first assignment. He was in from 67-73 and continued in reserves, so I relate deeply to your sentiments and wonderful analogies to the battle. Thanks so much. I needed that today in particular.

Bud, very well stated. My hat is off to you and I want to express my eternal gratitude for the men and women that have served in the military. God bless you all.

As for my fellow PCa warriors and their spouses, you have my profound admiration. Most of you have endured far more than I have. I find myself embarrassingly undeserving when I read of your journey's. My path has been so much less complicated. But as I said in my first post on this site: Thank You. What you have endured helped me to understand what I was in for. It made my trip so much easier. I am eternally grateful to y'all as well. Know that your suffering made the journey for this old redneck, a whole lot easier. I will never be able to thank you enough.

I never served in the military. All of my children have. Two have seen combat. One is on a fast attack submarine. My father in law was both army and navy. His book (Any Road) was recently publiished through Tate Publishing. I sure would love to be in your attack squadron. No 50 for me however. Although I never served my best shot was 800÷ yards into the boiler room of a 6×6 bull elk with a mossberg 270. Give me a sniper riifle. I will take the point. Thank you vererans. Todd
