New Journey - Taxotere - Updated 19 March - Done

Excuse my inattention to HW the lost month, I've a bit worried and preoccupied.

Latest PSA last friday came in at 90. We decided was time to move onto the next treatment - right Taxotere.

Jan 3 I get my port, Jan 8th will be the first treatment

The daughters will be driving me.

This WILL crush the best!

Sorry your PSA is up. I'm sure you meant to say that This WILL crush the "beast" and not the "best"...Don't let this rule the holiday season...

Is Xtandi an option?

The Taxotere initially worked well for my husband and there is so many more possibilities currently and more in the works. Thoughts for your next year, but as said above - try to enjoy your holidays.

Hi Bud, well, not happy you have to go on Taxotere, but you never know, perhaps your type cancer is very sensitive to it and keeps it in check for many years. Not sure if you are on vitamin D, but some studies suggest vitamin D enhances the effect of Taxotere:

Although we have emailed and you have told me about your current situation, I know if anyone can beat this crap, it will be you. I want everyone to know that you have kept me outta the ditch on more occassions than I dare think about.

Sounds like a plan and of course you will beat this crap. We learned from our second opinion that taxotere might still be an option later - he had only 3 infusions which the second onc did not feel was long enough.
We will be interested in your new journey and chanting the chant with you all the way!

Don't you dare let this shake your confidence or lessen your resolve. You've got a barrel full of resources here and an army of friends. If things get hard, lean on us harder. You can beat this crap but you must take on a Mike Tyson fight plan now. Back that beast into a corner and keep on swinging. I expect good news in your future.

I know what THAT's like! Taxotere worked for me for several months. Indeed it is hard on the body, but if it kills cancer cells...!

Bud - sorry to hear this latest development, but like others have said - KEEP BEATING THE $#!t OUT OF THE BEAST ! ! ! Don't give up on your resolve, you've set the bar high so stay up there, keep being the "Rad, Dad" for your daughters. Will add you to my prayer list.

Thank you for your responses and support. Really means a great deal to me.

On why not Xtandi - both my oncologists said it was time to bring out the big gun - being Taxotere. Than later use the Xtandi - if needed.

Frank, my doctor son-in-law, was with me when I spoke with Doc. I was told nope to driving myself to and from the treatments and as part of the chemo I would be loaded up with Benedryl. Now thats a bit of a problem as there is no way my wife is going to drive the beltway or in DC. Had talked with the Doc on staying overnight there - yes its possible. On the way home I get a call from Jennifer, "Dad don't worry about. We will get you there, over the years you have done so much for us. Me, Frank and Gigi will go to your house the night before and than get you to and from the VA. This is such a little thing Dad after all you have done for us over the years."

Sniff sniff

That is a *sniff*. Things do work out. The Benadryl is a zapper. Cut my husband to 25 mg. He usually sleeps hard than, but within an hour of me driving him home, he wants to go to scout meeting. Drove him at first, but told him if he thought he was good enough to go - go for it. I'm exhausted afterwards. Long day :-).

You do have a wonderful wonderful family (which is no accident -- you throw off so much love, I feel it over the internet). I am glad your daughter can do this for you, and I'm sure it means a lot to her -- it's hard to watch someone you love suffer, it helps to be able to help.

I am mad and sad and disappointed that you've hit a bump, but you will get past this. It won't be pleasant, but it gets you to your goal -- more time enjoying the beautiful life you've built.

If prayers and well wishes and karma mean anything, you'll be getting great news soon. You have a world of people pulling for you.

I'm glad that you and your "women warriors" are sharpening your swords! You are the most inspirational/positive member of this forum and have helped lift my spirits and those of many others..Can't use guns in DC so swords will work fine!!

Bud,

I just got approved for XTandi before chemo. The pills will cost me $35 a month. Is this an option for you if you want to put off chemo as long as possible?

XTandi works through a different mechanism than Zytiga so it may help you.

Bud, sorry to hear that chemo is in your future, but many guys have a great response...knock the sh**t out of your PSA then maybe hit it with xanti....a double barreled approach.

We looked at Xtandi - we me and my medical team

Decided to use the big gun.

I've spoken with a number of people and they said the side effects are manageble.

Xtandi will be later if I need.
