Can anyone provide information of there experiences with Dr. Patel

I like what I see from my research so far and like the idea of a surgeon doing the work who has seen lots of prostates.

A little concerned about the assembly line process ... but feel the experience will outweigh the negatives

What are you numbers  ( PSA, Gleason, # of cores involved & % , age, etc) ??

If you have a Gleason of 6 or 3+4 = 7 , are you informed about other options ??

You have months, not weeks to get info. and make a decision ( according to John Hopkins Urology ).

I just had robotic prostrate surgery on Oct 1st. I shared your concerns. Since i live in florida before i commited to a treatment plan my wife & i checked out Shands @ Uf and Mayo in Jacksonville. I have had a very positive experience with Patel and his staff. The Celebration hospital was amazing. It was more comfortable than many of the Orlando resorts i've visited. They may do a large amount of operations but all of your individual needs are addressed amazingly well. My experience is fresh in my memory and i'd be happy to share it with you. I can give you my personal email or would be happy to discuss my experience with Patel on the phone. I too read many reviews about Patel but it was the recommendation of my urologist (who also happens to be a surgeon) and a few of his patients that helped me select Patel over other treatment options.

Hi Tom,

As I stated in another post of yours, my husband had his surgery Aug. 2010 at Global Robotics.  Everyone's outcome is different but my husband was very fortunate and thinks the major reason is Dr. Patel.  My husband was completely continent in one week and had no e.d.  Not to say that every patient of Dr. Patel's does that well; that was simply my husband's case.  I do believe experience helps and Dr. Patel is a very commited surgeon.  When my husband asked his urologist( who is a surgeon himself and was near my husband's age) what he would do if this were him, he said without even thinking about it that he would go to Dr. Patel. 

His staff is great, the hospital is incredible and made the whole experience much better than we would have ever expected.  My husband is nearing 2 1/2 years from his surgery and says he feels very lucky he went to Dr. Patel.  I'm sure there are other great surgeons out there; this was just my husband's experience.

My husband had his surgery done by Dr. Patel in November, 2009 - can't believe it's 3 years ago already!
As a registered nurse, I was extremely impressed with Dr. Patel, his office staff and our entire hospital experience.

His office is extremely busy, especially on days when he's seeing new patients for the first time. We were amazed at the number of patients coming to see him from other countries as well as from all over the US. His waiting room is full on those days, but drinks and snacks are provided to make the wait easier. Other visits after surgery had minimal waiting times. We were fortunate to live about a 2 hour drive away, so the only time we actually stayed overnight was right before his surgery while he was doing the dreaded bowel prep.

Hubby had a very quick recovery and was fully continent within a few days after the catheter was removed. He did have positive margins and a recurrence within about 6 months after surgery. Dr. Patel stayed on top of everything and referred him for RT & hormone therapy as soon as the need was identified. Three years later, hubby's PSA is undetectible and he's doing extremely well!

I see you are still getting as much info as possible on Patel and that is good. I didn't take that long at all to decide and I am very pleased with the outcome. Take all the time it takes for you to be confident in your decision.

I know the amount of surgeries that Dr. Patel does SOUNDS like it must be an assembly line type process but once you meet Dr. Patel, that concern vanishes from your mind. He has a great team that helps him including the office staff. What really impressed me is the credit he GIVES everyone around him. He says WE a lot even though he preforms the operation.

My wife said the he seems like he sincerely wants to help all his patients. He talks so calmly and confident that you trust the man with your life. The first time we met, he talked to me like he has known my case for months.

Celebration Health was a wonderful hospital and all the staff was so nice and caring.

I had positive margins after my surgery which means we weren't sure if he got it all or not. I just got back my 2nd PSA results a week ago and it is still Zero! So far so good.

As Renee said, each patient's results are different, just like each patients cancer is different.

Go to YouTube and check out his videos and interviews, there are many. TV news stations talk about him and many videos show the surgeries being performed. Amazing!! I didn't watch the surgery videos until AFTER my operation but watch them if you dare.

My wife just had open heart surgery at Florida Hospital Orlando 6 weeks ago. Her surgeon was also one of the top in his field. She said a few days ago how luck we were to have the best we could get perform our surgeries this year. We are both healthy now and walking together for our recovery.
