Hello all,

Today I received the call from my doctor's office that makes all prostate cancer survivors apprehensive. She started with; the doctor wants you to know the results of your recent PSA screening. The good news, still undetectable for the thirteenth year.

I was diagnosed with a Gleason 7 December 2009 with a PSA in the mid-5s at the time of my open prostatectomy January 2000. No radiation or chemo.

I certainly count my blessings and have a great appreciation for this fantastic website, HealingWell.com.

John - major congratulations to you, can't even imagine what that feels like to be a "zero" for 13 years. I only stayed in the zero club for 3 months, lol. Very happy for you, you are doing great.

John - no one would think it was bragging, every one loves a good story and a happy ending, just wished there were many more like yours to tell. It gives encouragement to all the others in the fight.

Please brag a little - gives us hope that we can beat this thing.

It's been a whole year since my DX. I'd like to think I could make it 20 years. Knowing that some has made it a very long time is big time encouragement.

You're not bragging at all. As noted above, if one of us can go 13 years, that tells us that more of the rest of us can too!

Hello all,

I failed to mention, I will be 71 next month and enjoy excellent health. My only current health complaint (pain) stems from a Virtue male sling that was implanted 3 1/2 years ago, then partially removed five months later due to unrelenting pain.

Although the Virtue sling made my incontinence MUCH worse, the explantation procedure was an attempt to reduce intolerable pain without consideration to my incontinence.

Following partial removal of the Virtue mesh, I was implanted with an AdVance sling and remain 100% dry to date.

This is my story and I am sticking to it!

Congrats to John, I was 42 when diag with PC. my PSA was 4.7 and Gleason score of 3+3=6. Margins were negative. I just hit the 11-year mark. And my story is a bit different. My PSA after surgery never went to zero. But holds steady between .1 and .2 for 11-years.

Never had another treatment beside RP.

John, congrats!!!
I've been off the forum for a week or two, Since i haven't been diagnosed with PC i figured it was better to not make it a daily habit, and find things to work myself up. But coming here and seeing your post was great.
Since they found HG Pin in my biopsy a month or so ago, i figure its probably a matter of when not if, I apply for membership. So seeing your post (as well as some of the other success stories) is seriously uplifting. Thank you.

Please know I greatly appreciate all the good wishes and the encouragement my good fortune has given to my many brothers.

A question does lurk in my mind though. We have all heard, "if a man fathers twelves boys (or girls) in a row, what are the chances the next child he fathers will be a boy (or girl)"?

I have read where the correct answer to this question is 50/50 providing his wife does not kill him first or do the Lorena Bobbet surprise.

I would like to think that each annual milestone (undetectable) PSA reduces the probability of a reocurrence significantly. Let's hope this is true for all.

I was diagnosed in December 1999 with open surgery in January 2000 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.

With a biopsy showing Gleason 7, I was told, at that time, that neither radiation, chemo or a combination of both would cure me of cancer.

My only possibility for a cure was an open prostatectomy at that time. At least it made the choice a no-brainer for me.

I am 100% convinced that my life was saved by a coupled of closely spaced PSA screenings that were slightly elevated, which prompted biopsies and confirmation.
