Thanks for this update RobertC, way to stay on top of things and also to share!

Of note, everyone should understand this update states "the tables were updated using the experience of surgeons at the Brady performing radical prostatectomy from 2006-2011" - so the results shown in these updated Partin Tables are predicting the pathological stage post radical prostatectomy (RP) only.

Thank you for posting thisupdate.  If cost and distance were no object, Alan Partin is the physician I would have chosen to perform my prostatectomy.  Because cost (insurance) and distance (I live on the West Coast) were an object, my surgery was performed locally, with good results.

Interesting.

"For example, men with a biopsy Gleason Score of 8 and above previously were not thought to be good candidates for surgery because of the likelihood that the cancer had spread. The new data show a higher probability of a cure with surgery even if a man's Gleason score is 8. Scores of 9 and 10 are still considered high risk, indicating that the cancer likely has spread".

I assume that this update also includes the change in biopsy grading adopted in 2005:

and also found elsewhere.

This would explain the increased biopsy grades percentage of G7 in the 06-10 cohort and the decreased G6 compared to the 00-05 group.

This change in Gleason grading has had a substantial effect on every published report since the 2005 change. JHU refers to this result as the "Will Rogers" effect. Will Rogers, a native Oklahoman, said that the migration of Okies in the 30's to California Central Valley raised the IQ of both locations. Thus this new grading scheme makes new G6 look more benign, and G7 more like the classical G6.

Being a Gleason 8 with <.01 PSA after 4 years I'm glad I had the surgery even though I was told that it wasn't the right choice.

You ever notice in math that when you divide by 0 you get different results depending on your calculator. That's the same way with these calculators when you enter a very low PSA and high grade PC.
