 Hello,

It's been 2 months since my Da Vinci surgery.  At my check up last week the Dr. was surprised that my leaking was this bad.  I haven't been able to keep anything in my bladder.  Seems it goes in and comes out a little while latter. 

The Doctor says time will take care of it.   At two months and no improvement at all I am getting a little frustrated and depressed.  I keep doing my Kegals but it hasn't done much so far. 

Has anyone experienced a long delay in getting control back, hopefully there is a light at the end of this ordeal.

Hello Gary,

The rule of thumb is all about threes. Two thirds of men will be continent after three months. Of those who are not, two thirds of them will be continent after a year. That leaves one guy in nine leaking at the end of a year. He gets to talk to his urologist about what to do next.

Has your doctor talked to you about biofeedback? It does seem to be somewhat helpful and at least it gives you something to do while you are waiting to get better.

My signature currently says "incontinent" (after 6 1/2 months) but I am tempted to change it to say "slight leaks" since I finally seem to be making progress.

My oncologist is also a prostate cancer patient. He had his prostate out a couple of years ago and he says that he dried up after seven months. Sometimes it takes a long time.

And sometimes it doesn't happen without help.

Hi Gary. I had my da Vinci procedure 11.1.12 suffered a water infection after Catheter removed, lasted 6 or 7 weeks. Now Leaking Badly. Frustrating but Live in Hope. Patience I am told is the Key. I hope so.

I don't think I'm typical but I'm now past 15 months since my DaVinci surgery. I leaked uncontrollably right after the surgery and daily Kegel exercises eventually led to slower leaking. BUT I'm still leaking - 500-600ml per day (3 pads). Four months after the surgery, my surgeon was also surprised that I was leaking as much as I was because he had been able to leave the bladder sphincter intact. I have made some progress in the intervening year and was even dry at night at one point but I always slide back to the 500-600ml level eventually, even with continued Kegels. My urologist has now recommended pelvic floor rehabilitation through physical therapy and I hope that leads to further improvement. If I haven't made much progress by my second year since surgery, I will look into other options to regain control over my incontinence. I hope you have a better experience than I did.

I leaked like a sieve for three weeks. I was really stressed about it because I had to go back to work that Monday, and didn't want to carry a bag full of pads with me. Then, when Monday came around, for some reason, out of the blue, I only used one pad. Now, at 6 1/2 months, I'm still using one pad a day, but my point is that it just improved overnight. Hang in there. You may wake up tomorrow and not leak at all.

Keep doing the kegals....It isn't easy and sometimes it seem like little or know progress...and then...

It gets better...baby steps forward then a big step then a couple teeny steps back...rinse repeat.

I mean really I went to the movies today...peed once, the first movie I went to after my sugery I peed like 4 times and then had to leave right before the end of themovie trying to get to the bathroom and no way...I went out the emergecy exit peeing all over myself and finished outside..I wet myself good. I mean that was bad nothing I could do to stop it and you can't run at that stage either.....climbed into he car and waited for her to come out...

Don't let up brother, you can do it.
