penile rigidity? I'm now 18 months post surgery and still hoping. I use a VED (only to avoid penile shrinkage). I long for the natural erection. I'm 71 and continue to run 4-5 miles 5-6x's week. Last PSA (Sept 12) was immeasurable. Problems (in addition to ed) seem to be the urge to urinate more frequently albeit a minute amount on most occasions with an occasional drip. I wear a pad only while running. Is it false hope on ever attaining a natural erection? I'm in the 4th quarter of my life and hope to finish the game (80 & beyond) taos

18 months is getting far along, usually they say it takes about 2 years to fully heal. Can you get a partial erection, or is it completely dead? I assume you've tried viagra/cialis.

Have you considered injections? Once you get over the idea of injecting yourself and figure out the dosage it's great. It's not natural, but you still get the erection sensation and you don't get the side effects like the pills will give you.

I'd talk to your uro about injections. The idea of them hurts you brain more than the actual shot hurts you willie. They do work -- for four out of five guys. That fifth guy may wind up with an implant. Nine out of ten guys with implants love them. So your chances of finding something that will work for you are really good as long as you don't give up.

Many guys who are using injections find that they help jump-start the healing process and that they can reduce their dose or pills start working for them or their natural wood returns. And even if that doesn't happen, if you wind up permanently using trimix to inject you will have something that works well and is one of the cheapest per-use ED treatments.

Snowbound, thanks for your comment. Yup tried viagra, all %ages to include a 100 mg dose...no help, but no side affects. Injections, I don't think so. I'm on enough drugs combating hypertension, high cholesterol, gerd, and pre-diabetes. Might discuss the injections next time I see my urologist (4-13). Taos, not sure I understand your comment on "enough drugs." Unless I'm mistaken, Trimix acts locally. In some ways using Trimix would result in fewer systemic drugs than when you take Viagra or Cialis.

And as others have said, it is not painful ... more like a mosquito bite than a bee sting.

Most ED drugs started their life as failed blood pressure drugs. Almost all of them lower your blood pressure a bit but not enough considering their side-effects at the needed dosages. The PDE5i drugs (Vaigra, Levitra, Cialis, etc.) were the ones where the researchers noticed that one of the side effects was better erections even at very small doses (as a blood pressure drug).

Do talk to your doctors about whether or not the drugs in trimix (papaverine phentolamine alprostadil) are counterindicated for any of your conditions. The amount injected is tiny and, since you are being treated for hypertension what little systemic effect they do have might be all to the good.

Taos, I'm in the same boat as you, though even further along (two and a half year). When you're thinking about ED, don't underestimate the possible role that pre-diabetes can play. There's probably more going on with you and me than just the after-effects of the prostate surgery. Also, in our age group, a year and a half is a long time in terms of sexual performance. Even if we hadn't had the surgery, chances are good that we would be less studly than two years ago. In my case, the hindering factors would include age, pre-diabetes, loss of a nerve bundle, and the expected side effects of a prostatectomy. Not a good combination.

    I am a whole lot younger than you, 52 at surgery, 4 years later still use trimix. I'm afraid for me and YOU, that's your best bet for somewhat normal sex, unless you want a penile implant, which I hear works great.  But I'm not sure I want to personally go through that. I hope to god I can live to 72 given my strong family history of cancer, neither of my parents ever made it that far.......
