Started Varian DART, Meds Need advice

I started DART last Thursday so today was day five. I am scheduled for 30 sessions at 180Gy. Does that sound high? I will clarify with them tomorrow, I didn't get the details, just too exhausted from the whole process, once I decided on what and where, I trust they are doing what needs to be done.

I am starting to feel a burning while urinating. Is this to be expected so early? I will ask them tomorrow, just like to have independent opinions.

Also I have had headaches and congestion, thinking it's from Carafate and/or Trental, anyone have any info on side effects from those and what the options are for substitute drugs.

Sounds a little early for burning, but every man is a little different. If you tell the doctor or nurse, they can give you Pyridium which will turn your pee orange, but will work.

Are they having you drink water ? Making sure your bladder is full is a good thing, although there is some conflicting opinion on the necessity.

Sounds like your treatment plan is very similar to mine. My daily dose was 180 cGy for the first 30 days for a total of 54 Gy. Followed by LDR Brachy. I have to additional treatments left to be completed in March for an additional dose of 18 Gy.

I had no urinary issues during the DART teatments. I have had some mild issues since the LDR Brachy but they are improving by the day. I would suggest you discuss your urinary issues with the nurse.

As far as the headaches and congestion I also had none. The carafate was my biggest problem and it caused nausea and vomiting until I cut back on the dose. The headaches and congestion could be more related to the hormones, but I did not thae any so I cannot say for sure.

I started Casodex and Avodart almost a month prior to starting, recently had an injection of Trelstar. I was already on Terazosin for flow issues, prostate 61 cc.

The recent burning only lasted for app 2 hours, I took some Ibuprofin which helped. The minor burning came back to day around the same time after today's session, The nurse recommended to drink more water as it helps lower the acidity of the urine and to stay away from the common bladder irritants. They do not want me on Pyridium right now for some reason, I suppose they are saving it for the seeding.

As for the dose, it is 180cGY for 30 days, or 1.8 per day x 30 days. 54Gy. What do these numbers mean?
