7 days post op with bladder spasms

Greetings all,
I've been lurking here since my diagnosis on 12/21/12. This is a great support aid for those in the club and those who support them. I'm now at home recooperating from my RRP on 2/7/12. Everything has been going fine until the last day or so when I began having bladder spasms. Basically the urge to pee, but no relief. The cath is dripping so it doesn't appear to be blocked or anything. The wife say maybe it's a good sign and tells me to suck it up because it can't be worse than labor. I called the nurse and she said make sure that the cath is hanging down so gravity can work best. I've switched from the leg bag back to the bed bag, but the cath doesn't come out til next Wed so I'm looking for any reasonable suggestions.

They gave ma a pill that I could take that solved the problem of the bladder spasms. They worked like a charm. Call your Dr back.

I'm kinda new here and also a CPA (in Michigan) with PC.  I think it must come from sitting too much.  Or you just wanted to miss busy season?

I'm seeing couple of docs next week with surgery probably post 4/15.

Share any questions you think I should ask a surgeon.

CPA: Please let us know how you are doing. I'm particularly interested, because I'm only a bit younger than you (41) and will probably have LARP in March or April.

Any reason you chose RRP over LARP?

the best med for bladder spasms is the generic drug: Ditropan. ask your uro, he may very well have samples for free, plus its cheap to start with. works like a charm, I dealt with many, many spasms

Thanks David i could not remember what the drug was. As soon as I read your post I remembered. That is the drug I was thinking ok.

Yes, I had a few and they had given me some pills just in case and I only needed one and it went away.We all have been there,just stay positive ,it only gets better,you will see some blood after thay take out the cath but it's normal,even as long as two weeks after,your bladder is cleaning out where they sutured your pee tube,walk,walk ,walk!

I too was blessed with spasms but my catheter became clogged. You will clearly know if it i clogged, you well totally have wet pants, and then the pressure starts to build and build and you start to make a phone call to the UO on call and they say to run up to the ER and have them flush it out. But, do not let them remove the catheter for any reason.

Hopefully the ditropan works for you. I also notice that the more active I became post surgery, the more spasms I had. Maybe you need to take it a little easier and let your body heal.
