First PSA After HT--When

Just curious-- when do they do a PSA after HT starts (say after the Lupron shot)

I'd wait a month at least. It takes a little time for things to start to work...Some docs won't do it until it's close to the next shot. They don't want the patient to worry when things don't zero out right away...

Hubby was on 4-month Eligard injections.  His Uro had him get a PSA and T-level drawn the week before each injection and they would review his results (which were excellent!) when he came in for his appointment.

My first one was at three months -- the same day they did my next shot. One appointment: blood work first, then talk to the doctor, then see the lady with the big square needle. They have an in-house lab and a surprising amount of the blood analysis is available when I talk to the doctor. They call me a few days with the rest.

I vote with Tony Mel. Give it a month. It wont be a zero yet because psalm has like a 6 week half life (at least that is what I have been told) but it should be on the low down. Have you had your first hot flash yet. The reason I ask is I am having one right now. Todd

You could have a pre-hotflash. Kinda like premenstrual with as side of menopause. I gotta show you a pic of my new shoes.

It took a full year for my dad´s PSA to drop from 7.5 to 0.05. In the middle of that year there was even a climb (!) from 0.288 to 0.523 and then it dropped. Right now he is in the "off" phase and we are hoping to maintain him in that phase for at least 2 yrs. Good luck, Mel!!

Dont know Mel but I had one a week later due to being in a clinical trial and I had blood tests every week at first. My PSA went from a 94 to 56 in one week....then down to .16 the second week so it happened quick for me. I would think after 60 days you would be close to zero if its working.

I just stayed on my regular schedule - psa every 3 months with the uro, psa and T twice a year with the GP.

My husband was on quartley Lupron shots and casodex daily.
PSA testing was 1 week before every injection as well as T tests, and V-d.
That way we talked about results to make certain HT was still working.

Compiler, HT is like manopause, plus man boobs. after my first inj. they tested a month later an then kept checking every month for 6months whether I had an inj. or not. After that, it's once every 4 months, a week before the onc appt. and inj of Lupron.
