Studies have shown that most of that inch or two is actually the difference between claimed size and measured size and that the surgery has very little to do with it.

DonaldJ, do not shave yourself. If you're having Dr Menon and he does the supra pubic catheter like he did with me then they don't shave you where you think. It's a small tube in your abdomen below your belly button. Much more humane than the traditional foley.

Each doctor is different about
shaving. Check with your doctor.

Thank's for the advise guys. The plan is to use the supra pubic.
WaterGuy, thank's for your encouragement.

Great to read things went/going okay.
Sounds like a typical surgery report, ie a bit of the same as everyone else and a bit not the same.
Also good to others to see you report that sensation of there being a massive improvement after 48 hours. (Post surgery I was like I was drunk, couldn't remember talking to surgeon, drifting in and out of sleep, snoring loudly etc, 48 hours later I was in the kitchen washing the dishes!)
I shaved myself, but about
4 days before surgery, and did it was an electric shaver and talcum powder. But as ever I expect the Dutch way is different to the US way, same as I did not have to starve myself or take laxatives etc before surgery. (I had normal food till the night before, had light breakfast at 7 am and was in theatre at 11am and had a normal evening meal at 7pm!)
After 48 hours I was also able to shower. Did that by disconnecting bag from cath and made sure my wife was there to pass me towel, pick up the soap if I dropped it, and help me dry off without having to do lots of bending and twisting.
I tried reducing pain meds while cathn was still in as I thought it was not a good idea to be taking 6 paracetamol (tylenol) every day, but soon had lots of aches, so carried on with plenty of tabklerts until after cath was out and then reduced number of tablets very gradually.
Hope recovery goes well and hope you get that cath out soon and that you get good news on post-op pathology.

donaldj, supra pubic was a piece of cake compared to my brothers story about
his foley regarding comfort and infection. No problems whatsoever with the supra pubic.
One bit of advice, get some oversized sweat pants. Also, don't freak out if you all of a sudden have to "go normally". The supra pubic doesn't disable that path completely. I was surprised that I had to go a little before I turned the valve off at 5 days post surgery.
Also, the people at the Vattikuti were amazing. Everyone including the food. Best wishes for a successful outcome.
