I've actually read some about
this. I'm by no means expert on this, but a google search with some investigation yields pretty interesting info. There are actually home machines available and apparently this is used somewhat widely in Japan, as I recall. Hypertherapy is rumored to be one of the therapies that helped to cure Lance Armstrong of testicular cancer. The theory behind it is that the elevated temperature disrupts the normal reproduction of cancer cells and actually on it's own kills many. Evidently, when used in conjunction with certain chemos, the chemo's effectiveness is boosted substantially.
As I recall, there's a center in Los Angeles that uses this therapy with prostate cancer, but I'm not sure that it's covered by health insurance. I found it fascinating.
