I thought I was doing good but since I took my shower this morning, I have gone thru 4 pads. I called the hospital and they suggested that I flush my suprapubic for any clots. They also told me that it could be caused by the positioning of the catheter and sounded pretty normal to them. Seems like everytime I stand up from sitting, I start leaking. I am getting urine to the bag, so dont know whats happening. Did any of you experience this, I'm getting worried a bit.

Yes ,it is probably normal as the catheter moves inside the urethra you can get leakage and you will see blood clots for quite some time ,I'm thinking you had your prostate removed ,write up a signature when you have time so others can see your situation and respond correctly. You will go thru allot of pads at first , just learning the whole thing with them , tighter shorts and thickest pads worked for me ,I bought the womens standard nighttime type that have a sticky part on the backside , I bought them on sales for a couple of months the average is 10 to 12 a day for a couple of months depending on your activity, farting ,laughing, sneezing will spring a leak , the baby diapers cut in half was way to much trouble for me . The leakage will get better as soon as the cath is taken out ,I even wore diapers at night with the cath . I feel for ,you but know it gets better all the time , before you know it you will be playing with it again as therapy that you will need .Good luck we all are here for ya and keep asking questions , but when in doubt call the Uro or his PA , In my case I got sooner responses from the PA and still work with him for ED issues which is getting better all the time. Also had the suprapubic..are you leaking from urethra or the pubic incision?

I leaked every time i sat on the toilet from penis which i believe is normal. Aren't you supposed to shut off the cath soon and try peeing normally? I think i started doing that on the 4th day after surgery at Henry Ford.
Now when they pulled that hose out of me after a week I leaked out the incision like a sieve!! they called me a leaker. Layed down for an hour and it finally stopped. Bring towel and Adult diaper just in case.

I leaked also from the uretha with the catheter in also with some blood clots every now and then.  Cathether's been out for about 3 weeks now.  I'm using the Depend For Men Guards and also their underwear.  Some days I go through 7-10 pads, but I change very often since I'm back at work and with clients all day.  Some days I'm able to hold no problem and maybe only use a couple pads, but then days like today there seems to be little control again.  Like everyone else has said...it does get a little better every day. Hang in there.  ASK QUESTIONS!  This bunch has gotten me through a lot of issues and I'll gladly do the same for you if I can...Art

Thank's. I do have a signature, I dont know why it's not listed here. Yes I do have the suprapubic. After a couple calls to the nurse we figured it out. At first, I was told to walk, walk, walk and drink lot's of water. So I stayed on my feet for more than I should have. My legs and ankles were swelling. Well that just put pressure on everything. When Im laying down, I have no problem. My suprapubic drains like it should. When I get up or sit a while, I leak. I find that using this tube to sit on helps with less leakage. I went thru like 8 pads for 2 days and was wondering why this SP wasnt working. I have been flushing and have seen some clots on my pads. I will also leak when I sit on the toilet so I guess that is normal. There were times where my bag was not filling up at all and I was leaking it all out slowly. We figure it was the positioning of the SP when they put it in. So now the plan is for me to stay off my feet as much as possible until Monday when the cath comes, drink less water and to stop taking my pain pills that are blocking me up. Tomorrow I start my bladder cycling log. I just cant wait to get this thing off, it has been a real pain to deal with.
