Questions for surgery guys

I didn't have any of those things. Doesn't mean others didn't.

First thing I'd do is call your surgeon and ask him.

When did you take the catheter out and how did it look when you did that and your surgeon's nurse was there to look at it?

I had it out Monday and it didnt look as bad. The nurse said nothing but didnt really examine it.

Is that the same as triple antibiotic ointment ? It has bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate and polymyxin B sulfate. Im going to check with the nurse today, I couldnt sleep much last night because of it.

I ended up with some scaring of my urethra, from the cath. I guess its rare, but with my luck it happened. Cath was a bit painful for a day or two after surgery, but other than that didn't notice anything. After getting it out my flow slowly started to slow down over 2 weeks. I called my Dr office and talked to someone (not my Dr) and they said it was normal. At two weeks I had an appointment with my Dr and he straightened it out 'so to speak'. It was this point I got my Dr's personal email for any questions. A little stretching to open the scar tissue. Then daily stretching at home for a month or so. Looking back it wasn't that bad, more mentally challenging...
Hopefully this is not what's happening to you, but something to watch for. If in doubt, call your dr.
I was measuring flow for quite awhile after... Just to stay on top of it. If I recall normal is around 20 ml/sec. Dont quote me on that one.

I didnt have a foley cath, I had a supra pubic cath that went directly into my bladder. I talked to the nurse and she said the swelling is normal and will go away. On the rash she said that it could be from the urine or an irritation from the pad itself. She told me that after I shower to let the area air dry then put some zinc oxide on it and to keep willy up while in the pad. Also to change pads more frequently or it might turn into infection. YIKES !!!

Man, the hospital didn't tell me anything, except how to change the leg bag to the overnight bag.

I had to ask the nurse among some other things, about keeping the cath where it enters the penis, if I could keep it lubed as to not irritate it. She said it "should" be okay.

I actually received more info here at HW, on how to help myself with things after surgery, than I did from the doctor's office and the hospital. :-\

Just shy of a month since my daVinci and I still have stitches in the incisions!

I was told as the others to use antibiotic or bactrine on it around the tip with q-tip also, where the catheter was, also make sure your not getting a rubbing irritation from the pads being to tight it's been through a lot so treat it with care .I had the irritation from walking and it rubbing on pad . The swelling is of concern though ,keep in touch with URO or their PA , do you still have the catheter in? If you do make sure it is free to move and not getting pulled when your sleeping ,that will wake you up real quick! Best of luck! your on the way to healing but don't be afraid to ask questions here or anywhere.

I used the zinc oxide that the nurse recommended and its getting better. I did buy some bacitracin also just in case. The nurse said the swelling was normal and should go away in a couple weeks. It's just a little, not major , more in the back part. I had a SP catheter that went directly into my bladder for the 7 days. I did not have a foley thru my penis so it wasnt the catheter that caused this. Anyway, look's like it's getting better each day. I appreciate all your responces. Thank's.
