I've had four biopsies. The last three were done while I was mildly sedated with Valium. I'd ask you doc about
sedation, it makes a big difference for me. Biopsies aren't so much painful as absurdly annoying. I find that I like a bit of pharmaceutical detachment during the procedure.
As people have already said, there is some chance of an infection. You will usually be given antibiotics to prevent that. My doctor also called for a betadine enema before I came in but that may be overkill.
I wouldn't have mentioned "spreading the carcenoma". One hears about
that but it is soooo rare. There was one documented case about
a decade ago with a guy in Toledo, Ohio, and maybe a couple more worldwide, ever. Not something to worry about
