I had my prostrate massage last Thursday and urine was collected prior to and after the massage and sent to lab for pca3 and for culture also. I have read that 35 is the cut off meaning a result over 35 means pc likely to be found in next biopsy and under 35 means pc not likely to be found. My uro's nurse told me anything over 25 is considered abnormal. I read where pca3 is pca specific (as opposed to psa), so wouldn't any pca3 mean there is pca present? Why is there a number (median) whereby anything above that number means likely to have pca and anything under that number means unlikely to have pca.
I am just as anxious waiting for the pca3 results as i have been for past biopsy results-can't help it.

Back in November i felt good about my psa going down from 9.5 to 7.5 and my uro's nurse said my uro wanted me to go back on the same type of antibiotic, which gave me really bad side effects (nausea, headaches, and diarrhea). My uro's nurse asked me if i wanted to wait 3 months and have another psa and i jumped on that. So in March of 2013, my psa was 11.4 and now i am concerned that i should not have waited those 3 months and am concerned if there is pca, that it might have spread out of the prostrate. Now i am waiting on pca3 results.

The low free psa results do not look that good to me.
Good luck with the blood test results.
3 months will not be that important.
Maybe you are looking at a saturation biopsy. Good luck.

The reason a person has a biopsy is to see if you have prostate cancer. Its not rocket science, though the waters have certainly been muddied all these years, with the " advances" in tests, dagnab it. When will they come up with a test to see whether you should take a test to see if you should take a test, ad nauseam.

If I read your metrics correctly, the most troubling PSA is the most recent 11.4, but one reading does not a trend make, plus PSA means more when measured along with Testosterone.

PSA Free%<10 suggest prostate cancer 8 times more likely

PSA Free 10-25% suggests BPH is 3 times more common than prostate cancer

PSA Free% > 25 rarely associated with cancer

The 2.8 relative to the 11.4 is as close as you can get to the 25% benchmark at 24.56%.

How much time elapsed between the PSA=7.5 and the PSA=11.4? Not much if both were in 2013 and the PSA velocity is something you need to watch, but the last 2012 one was 8.8. So hard to interpret.

Thanks for responding, it really helps! The 7.5 psa test was 3-6-2013 and the 11.4 psa was 4-12-2013. i had my urine submitted for pca3 last Thursday (tomorrow will be a week). Waiting for the pca3 results has been as bad as waiting for all four biopsy results. i guess i will get the results today or tomorrow. Thanks.
