Now to just keep the PSA going down would be a wonderful thing.

His second infusion was canceled on Wednesday. The Oncologists and the PI of the study had a meeting on Tuesday night and decided he needed a little break. He had some GI problems that they were concerned about. Didn't know if the abdominal pain he was having was from the chemo or something else. So the decision was made to hold off one more week to give his bowels a rest.

He is back to himself, no abdominal pain, worked a full day today and is feeling great. So we are on for the next infusion on Wednesday. Glad it's on Wednesday, as we have are
Parrot Heads and will be at the Jimmy Buffet concert Tuesday
night.

Yes, this was a nice uplift in our journey.

We have gone to a couple and its much fun! You two do need a break, Jimmy Buffet will provide that for sure!

Hi Zimac,
Thanks for sharing your husband's initial results with the anti-STEAP trial. My father is currently being considered for this. Can you please let me know a little about your husband's continued experience on this medication?

Zimac s husband had some brain mets I think and had to drop the trial after a while.
She stated that the trial was a very definite plus. Bob's PSA is still lower than the start of the trial, even after withdrawing, if I remember.

My husband had great results on the Steap trial. He actually had a 70-80% reduction in his tumors. His PSA dropped from 40 to 5 on the first dose. SE's were minimal and he was living life fully. He was on the trial for approximately 6 months. Patients are having good results. We would have continued on the trial but he had a complication and needed surgery so he had to come off of the trial. There may be another Steap trial that he may be put on in the near future.

RobertC - you are correct. Trial was a definite plus. We are actually talking with Bobs Oncologist about another Steap trial.

Thanks so much Zimac for your reply! Sorry that It took me so long to get back to you. I really appreciate your insight. The past month has been a whirlwind of doctor's appointments and calls, emails, etc. We have doctors both in Toronto and in New York at MSKCC. My father started Xtandi a month ago and has been experiencing pain in his sacrum and rectal area. His PSA is decreasing (8.3 on april 22, 7.41 on may 10th, and 6.39 on May 22) but one of his docs is concerned that the cancer is still progressing based on his pain profile. The pain could also be from the Xtandi though so who knows. The STEAP1 trial will likely be our next step. His tumours express STEAP1 and he has been accepted into the trial. The choice is between this and taxotere which he hasn't had yet. Seems like anti-steap1 is a better option because more targetted. He has firmagon shots monthly (since September) and was on Zytiga for a few months from December to April which only made his PSA rise. Another option we are considering is visiting the Dattoli centre in Sarasota.

My husband was on Taxotere first and then Steap. He had much better results with Steap and SE 's were minimal compared to Taxotere. After one steap treatment his pain disappeared completely. I wish he could have remained on the trial but couldn't because he has brain mets. Is the trial at MSKCC as that is where my hubby was on it? Other patients are still on the trial and doing very well.

A decreasing PSA is always a good thing no matter how you slice it. Hope your Dad's PSA continues to decline. Please keep me posted. Best wishes on your next journey.

I have one more question, Chris. In order for my father to enter the trial he has to be off his current medication, Xtandi, for 1 month. We are quite concerned that his cancer would really get out of hand in this time. Did your husband experience this in the month prior to starting the trial?

My husband was off of all treatment for one month. His PSA did elevate somewhat but not terribly. Most trials want a one month wash out period.
We see Dr. Scher as well. You know you are in great hands with him. He's pretty amazing.
Good luck with the trial. I'm pretty positive that your Dad will have great results. I met a few patients on the trail who are doing extremely well.

This is great news! My deepest wish is that between newly approved drugs and clinical trials, we can all hang in there until the new generation of therapies come sweeping in on us.

Thanks John. Is the ABT-888 a trial? Where are you taking this? How was this drug chosen?
