what is Tumour grading?

I just went to my uro a few weeks ago and took a picture of a model he had of the progression of an enlarged prostate. A normal prostate is 15cc in size and enlarged prostate is 32cc. So you can see where your husband falls in between.
I checked my path report but I didn't see the size of mine, just the weight. My surgeon said mine was large, it weighted 57 g.

I'm sure some other guys will drop in to help.

My prostate was 5.0 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm. It was slightly over 98.3 grams, which is about 4x normal size.

Not sure how this measures out in cc's, though.

July 2011 local PSA lab reading 6.41 (from 4.1 in 2009). Mayo Clinic PSA Sept. 2011 was 5.7.
Local urologist DRE revealed significant BPH, but no lumps.
PCa Dx Aug. 2011 at age of 61.
Biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma in 3 of 20 cores (one 5%, two 20%). T2C.
Gleason score 3+3=6.
CT of abdomen, bone scan both negative.
DaVinci prostatectomy 11/1/11 at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), nerve sparing, age 62.
My surgeon was Dr. Matthew Tollefson, who I highly recommend.
Final pathology shows tumor confined to prostate.
5 lymph nodes, seminal vesicles, extraprostatic soft tissue all negative.
1.0 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm mass involving right posterior inferior,
right posterior apex & left mid posterior prostate.
Right posterior apex margin involved by tumor over a 0.2 cm length, doctor says this is insignificant.
Prostate 98.3 grams, tumor 2 grams. Prostate size 5.0 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm.
Abdominal drain removed the morning after surgery.
Catheter out in 7 days. No incontinence, occasional minor dripping.
Post-op exams 2/13/12, 9/10/12, PSA <0.1. PSA tests now annual.
Semi-firm erections now happening 14 months post-op & VERY slowly getting a bit stronger.

Allen is most likely correct in what he says. The volume of the prostate would have been 28ccs (weight 28 grams)

My prostate size was about 38cc which is slightly enlarged for my age. Based on the Gleason and PSA my doctors estimated I had about 19cc of tumor volume. Much of that was within the actual prostate volume as the PCa cells are basically an offshoot of the original prostate cells and have replaced them. I did have a nodule that could be felt so I was staged at T2b. It was possible, but not confirmed that PCa cells could have escaped the prostate. If that were the case then some of the tumor load generating a high PSA would have been outside the prostate.

Based on the calculations my doctors used, I estimate that your prostate size would have produced about 1.85 PSA. The remaining PSA and G8 would indicate a tumor volume of about 5cc. That you are a T2 indicatres that enough of the tumor was concentrated in the periferal zone that it could be felt. A common grape is about 7.5cc so if all your cancer was compactly formed in one mass it probably would have been smaller than a grape. However, PCa tends to be multi-focal and it is far mre likely that you had several small masses in the area.

TA You and Big,imo, did not make it clear that it was his prostate, not his tumor size that was 28cc ,except by implication. I was trying to correct that. you just assumed he made a mistake in wording. Even though H e specifically y asked in first post if it was prostate or tumor. His signature shows that he thought it was his tumor. I was trying to correct that misconception. your post addressed to me basically says that I thought the same as him and you were correcting us both. very bizarre but doubt I will be able to convince you of this, specially after deleting my initial thread on the subject after my frustration with where the thread was going. Just reread Canucks 1st thread, bigs 1st thread and your 1st thread, you should see what Im talking about. I know you read my initial post be fore I deleted it out of frustration or you wouldn't have responded to me personally. I admit there may have been something in my initial post that made you think I thought it was tumor size. you will have to take my word for the fact that Ive been around the block a few times with PCA and would never confuse 28cc for a tumor size in dealing with PCA. You are right. Due to its size, Dr. Tollefson, my surgeon at Mayo, performed a cystocopy the day before to see what he would be dealing with. As he finished the test, he told me, "You have a WHOPPER of a prostate!" I think the size of a tennis ball, or even a baseball, is pretty much what it looked like at 98.3 grams. I guess that would be almost 100 cc's.

Good thing I love playing tennis! LOL
