Sulforaphane, extracted from broccoli sprouts, is available in health food stores and on the net. It is actually much better to take the pill along with at least one raw broccoli floret, because gut absorption is hugely enhanced by an enzyme found in raw broccoli.
Here's a post from the ASCO meeting about
it:
Sulforaphane treatment in men with recurrent prostate cancer.Broccoli (sprouts) is probably the best source but other cruciferous veggies are also good. I do a salad that has both a cruciferous vegetable (kale) and pomegranate. Chop up the kale thinly, add crumbled feta, pomegranate seeds, toasted pine nuts, and sliced red onions. Toss with a balsamic vinaigrette and let sit for at least 10 minutes to marinate and slightly wilt the kale.
There's another salad with several cruciferous veggies that don't taste at all like broccoli. It's made with arugula, thinly sliced radishes, cut-up orange sections. The dressing is lime juice, extra virgin olive oil, prepared mustard, ground coriander, and salt . I garnish with nasturtium blossoms that I steal from my neighbor (I sometimes steal the nasturtium leaves too.) Arugula, radish, mustard & nasturtium are all cruciferous.
