Pain at tip of penis

It has been five weeks since my surgery, still dealing with pain at tip of penis, my family doctor thought it was a uti while the surgeon believes it is scarring. My psa was .001 which he said it was nice to give good news, I am pretty close to dry through the night and I guess the incontinence and pain will rectify itself over time

Did either doc take a urine sample to test?

The nurse/practioner took a urine sample and thought I had a uti, while the surgeon a week later said it was a normal result after having prostate surgery(confused)

I am sorry that my original post was confusing, I think I was making both a statement and a question. I get confused whether everything is just normal healing or something to worry about. On one hand the surgeon says my post op psa is great and on the other hand I am still in discomfort.

That is something I had for many months after surgery. But like all things that hurt, it passed with time and I'd almost forgotten till you posted your comment. IT WILL PASS. I know its painful, and for me throbbing, but its your body healing. You got some great news on the PSA front. Enjoy it. Your body will heal itself in time. Knowing this, calm yourself with the thought that, in time, you will enjoy life without constant pain in your groin and penis. Good Luck.

After my surgery, I had an intermittent , sharp, needle like pain at the tip where the urethra leaves the head of the penis. It became less over the first month and now only occasionally bothers me.
At first I tried A+D ointment. Didn't really work but jostling the package seemed to stop it. I thought it was irritation from the depends or pads. But then I associated it with either a full bladder or when i feel some urine leak into the urethra from the bladder.
It's called a referred pain from the nerves being rerouted.
And yes, I can tell when urine "drops" from the bladder into the urethra. I just can't stop it all the time. But it's much less frequent now.

Many of us have experienced exactly the same pain. It gets better. Give yourself time to heal.

If your'e not already doing it, take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofin, drink plenty of water, preferably spring water, reduce or eliminate tomato based foods/spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol etc..

Just to amplify what Gassman said and clarify things a bit. Referred pain is caused by an injury somewhere along the course of a nerve where the pain is perceived where the nerve ends. In your case it is likely that the place where your urethra was stitched back together is still a bit irritated and is still healing. Fauntleroy's suggestions will tend to reduce the inflammation and irritation at your bladder neck, the pain of which is 'referred' down the nerve to the tip of your willie where you feel it.

I have taken the ibuprofen but it doea not seem to help, I have also learned that having a couple of beers at night though enjoyable causes more trips to the washroom. Once again this forum helps me in moving forward in knowing what I am going through is normal. I can not thank this Site enough for your comments and encouragement.

Pww099, you might also try a different NSAID, like Aleve, unless you know you're allergic to them or something.

Ibuprofen is only one of them, and different ones work better for different people. For example, ibuprofen is the only one that works for me, but it does nothing for my sister. Acetaminophen (like Tylenol) doesn't do anything for me. Responses to them vary by individual.

One thing I have noticed is my stream is getting stronger at times and with it comes an ache at the head of the penis.

It would be better described as a pressure ache if that makes sense.

Pww099, I remember that (spraying) happening for a while. I don't really remember when it went away (and besides, everyone is different). I don't spray like that any more. Just remember to clean-up the floor...

Just an update as on it goes. i am Back to the surgeon on Wednesday, I will have a scope done to find out why I still have this pain. The surgeon does not believe it is cancer as a result of my psa test but does not know why I still have this pain.

Hi, just a quick note. I had PC and had surgery 12/20/2011. (robotic) I had extreme pain for 6 months after surgery. It has been over 18 months now and still have a low grade pain as you are describing. My doctor can't explain why I am still having pain. He thought it might be scar tissue but did a scope and found very little. He said he removed what little there was but didn't help at all. I just figure that I will have the pain the rest of my life. PSA is .005 so that is all I care about. If I can find a good doctor in the St. Louis area, I might try and see what he/she says. Still looking so if anyone knows of a good doctor in the St.Louis area please let me know. Thanks

Same issues for me. Had surgery about 3 & 1/2 months ago, complicated by a UTI 3 weeks post-op, treated successfully with antibiotics. Ever since, have a variable burning/stinging pain at tip of penis with sensation of dripping (all dry though). Had a recent cysto for these symptoms which was normal. Multiple urine cultures were clean. Not much help with NSAIDS, Azo, Flomax. Urologist seems flummoxed. Hopefully time will help..

Well I am closing in on the 8 week mark, what a ride. The scope I had performed last week due to pain at the tip of the penis showed no abnormalities, so it is just the slow healing process. The pain is now becoming just a dull ache. Off to physio next week to get some help with my pelvic floor exercises,,,,, other than that life is good.

Glad to hear that things are progressing for you. It can be maddeningly slow but it sounds like you are heading in a good direction.
