Hubby will have a cystoscopy this Friday. (He's been retaining urine and had repeated bouts of UTIs for more than 2 months- doc suspects scar tissue at bladder neck). He says he's going alone.  Will he really be up to driving himself home?

Is he having it at the doctor's office or at the hospital? If its being done as a day surgery, he wouldn't be allowed to drive home.

I had that done several times, both ways.

When it was done at the doctor's office, I was too sore and shook up afterward to want to drive, even though at the time, my uro's office was only a mile from my house.

We are all different, but if it were me, I would want to have a designated driver just to be on the safe side.

I had it done with a local. Not that big a deal, but he shouldn't be bashful about asking for more local if he needs it. I drove home afterwards with no problem.

Tell hubby it ain't that bad. Definitely a weird sensation, but not painful. Not nearly as bad as what you might imagine. Watching it on the monitor makes for an interesting distraction.

I had a topical anesthetic that was "injected" up the urethra as a gel, but it was nothing that bothered me. The procedure was less than pleasant, but I had no issues whatsoever driving home from the clinic. Not sure that I can imagine needing any sedation for that.

I watched the screen, they pointed out the sutures from the reconnection (ok, bumping past that got my attention), then pointed out all the radiation damage spots up to the bladder wall.

The nurse does constantly tell me that I am a very good patient in these sorts of cases, but that may be past training which has a very real application here. Some here will understand - ignore that which only hurts you, focus on that which came to kill you.

Have one every year to check no recurrence tumor in bladder.
A bit of gel on the old boy no pain over and done very quick
get dressed drive home no big deal.

had it done earlier this year. was teriffied going in. Turned out to be unpleasent , but no dig deal. They used the gel on me (very sloppy). No problem drinving home

Was thinking, perhaps my "scoping" experiences were so bad, because I had a lot of damage at the bladder neck, and then the ones that were done post SRT were dealing with a badly radiated and enflamed bladder and bladder neck. You can only imagine how raw and scarred the inside of my bladder was like at the time.

I've had 3 done....was terrified with the first one....no big deal,,,the other 2 were also pretty easy....no problems driving afterwards. The numbing gel works great !!

My second cystoscopy was no big deal at all.

The first time, however, I failed to realize that the bladder is filled with a saline solution during the procedure.  This procedure took place prior to my Davinci surgery, and at that time I was having issues with urinary urgency and frequency.

On the 20-mile drive home, I was at the wheel when I suddenly developed an absolutely irresistible urge to pee.  It immediately became clear that I was going to have to pee on the side of the road or flood the driver's seat, so I chose option (a).  I obviously hadn't emptied all the saline solution, and it created a real problem for me. 

The second cysto took place after my DaVinci procedure, and there was no problem.

So, I would just suggest your hubby be sure he has emptied his bladder completely before leaving the facility after the cysto, especially if he's currently having problems with urinary urgency or retention.  Other than that, driving home shouldn't be a really big deal, unless he's been given some sort of sedative, which I never was.  If sedation is involved, a designated driver is obviously a necessity.

I had it done a few months ago and it was not as bad as anticipated. The key is to breath and relax as best you can. Drove home with no problems.

It sounds worse than it is but still a little uncomfortable while not painful. It took maybe 2 minutes in my case, but the again two minutes was always my modus..................errrrrrrrrr...................different subject.
