Ken,
One of the guys getting his cath out while I was sitting in the waiting room was dry immediately. I have talked to him since. He never used a pad. Not one.
I had the same doc, same surgery. Two months later (remember it well, it was Christmas) I was still at eight heavy pads a day. It got better, and at five months out I was down to one medium pad a day. But then I started IGRT, which has its own known issues with incontinence, so I've never gotten any better.
You are not even a month out, so excluding the bone dry guys, you are in the norm. Just do your kegels, avoid acidic / carbonated beverages, and acidic foods. Don't cut back water, as that will make the urine your bladder does hold become even more of an irritant.
You probably will not notice that you are slowly improving until after it starts, as it is a gradual process.
Always discuss your current situation at every opportunity with your uro/surgeon.
