My husband had robotic surgery on August 7 and had his catheter out on August 16. He is incontinent which is expected at this point and is handling that well except for his lack of sleep. As he lays in bed at night, his bladder fills and gives him that feeling of fullness, but it will not empty until he stands up and then the urine just flows out. He has to do this 4 or five times a night, making it a very interrupted sleep. Is this normal? Is there anything he can do to help this?

After surgery, I was up 4 or 5 times a night going to the bathroom. I was up more post surgery than before surgery. And yes I never had a good nights sleep!! However, for me, it gradually got better. I was back to normal after a month or two. It reminds me of the joke that someone told me. " I pee like clock work every day at 7 am. The problem is I don't wake up until 8 am"

same here...at least 3 times a night

mine... surgery on 02/08/13.....3 weeks already still have to getup 3 or 4 times to pee...lol

guess it takes times to get better...

Yes it is normal, and yes, it is aggravating.

1. Restrict fluids after 8 pm.
2. Avoid caffeinated beverages after 12 pm
3. I found that I could delay getting up at increasingly longer times, thus increasing the ability of my bladder to hold it.

Welcome to Hw. These are tough times for mst men, but they will get better. I remember pinching myself and moving rapidly to the bathroom. I actually wore a Cunningham clamp for a couple of months during the day, which would allow me to go for several hours without having to run to the toilet.

davinci on may 16. totally incontinence for 5 weeks except when in bed or sitting, then a gush. at night I was up 4 times for those 5 weeks, then suddenly it dropped to 2 times a night for the next 6 weeks. for the last 3 weeks it has been once a night and that is not until after about 5 to 6 hrs of sleep. Dr said this is the way it works and sometime in the future I will sleep all night. Now after 14 weeks I am finally at 1 tena pad a day and that is mostly for stress leaks or jogging. My dr. said my bladder was thick from having to push urine for so many years because of an enlarged prostate and that it would have to learn to relax and my sphincter muscle would need to become stronger. when those two things happen I should be continent. I just do a lot of kegals.
