Despite the extensive radiation damage that I underwent during my SRT in 2009, I was fortunate that it never effected my bowels in any way. To be honest, I think my empty bladder took the full blunt of the radiation.
However, nearly 4 years later, I am starting to have some serious bowel urgency issues, and its getting worse by the week.
Now, if I have any inner urge to "poop", I had better find a toilet within minutes. It's become that urgent. It's not like before, where if I felt an urge, I could safely wait to get home, or hold it. Now, if I have to go, I have to go instantly.
Starting to cramp my style, especially if I am driving or away from home, and I am plotting out every safe bathroom in my route. I have been in the state of sheer panic at times racing to find a bathroom, and hoping to find it empty when I get there, I just know I am going to have an embarrassing accident soon.
I don't eat lunch often, mostly only if I am having a business related lunch once or twice a week, but getting to the point where I am afraid to almost eat at all if I am not at home, I get that instant a reaction.
I can't afford to take any meds to curb it, even OTC stuff, because I don't want to encounter constipation problems with the amount of opiates I have to take every day. Kind of a catch-22.
Like we joke about, radiation is the gift that keeps on giving, and giving..... Just surprised that its taken nearly 4 years post radiation for this annoying side effect to happen.
And yes, I am one of those nuts, that keep a roll of toilet paper in their car trunk. It would be bad enough to have to go run in the woods, but even worse without toilet paper. Here in the south, you really don't want to use Spanish Moss, because that stuff is full of bugs, lol.
