rphy guy,
Originally, the diverticulum was causing at least one infection a year and finally this last July I went to see a uro...who turned out to be a 'cowboy doc'...hell bent on turp and really tried to railroad me into the procedure.
I was voiding ok on my own but my retention was not good...400/500. Without asking he popped in a catheter and it's changed everything since. I have been unable to regain my own ability to void and as a result have become dependent on 'self-cathing' 3 times a day.
In the beginning it was nice to void the bladder completely but would have liked to have had a choice in the matter or been informed that once you begin using a catheter you can never go back to voiding on your own. At least, that's been my experience. I had no idea or was never informed by this guy of the possible dependency issue.
With his run up, I felt pressured, never part of the process. I certainly picked the wrong person to see. Since then have seen several, what I would consider, much more competent and ethical doctors.
Any case, I commenced taking medication...avodart + alfa blocker 4 months running now...with little or no improvement. Looking towards the PAE procedure as a viable option however, you didn't have the dramatic turnaround that others seemed to have experienced
Perhaps there are others on this forum that have had success with the PAE procedure. It sounds promising.
All the best in Birmingham and i can totally relate to your being sick of tired!
