Kyphoplasty Surgery (T12) Wed. 11-6-2012/Finished 10th round of Spot Radiation!

I'm scheduled for Kyphoplasty (T12) outpatient surgery tomorrow (Wed.) at 8AM (have to be at hospital at 6:30AM).  If all goes well, will get to go home around 4PM.  Praying this will help my pain and have the lack thereof!! 

Finish up this morning with my Radiation!  Trusting this will help the pain.  Said that if both of my hips keeps hurting, will do these next!

Dave in Bartlett, best wishes on your surgery. My prayers are that your treatments will help the pain go away! I admire you upbeat attitude on HW. Thank you for encouraging all of us.

Wed. evening, arrived home around 4PM. All went well and my doctor was happy with the procedure even though my bones at the T12 were extremely hard to penetrate with the two needles! Was given a local so I could communicate with the nurse as how I was dealing with the pain. The Doctor had to pound and pound to get the needle to its designation point (doctor said the radiation treatment must have made the bones very hard and a lot of scaring in the tissue). I remember yelling: IT HURTS...IT HURTS!! The doctor had to stop several time to allow the nurse to give me more pain med: Dilaudid (hydromorphone)! This morning, looking back to yesterday, I'm laughing at myself and would LOVE TO HAVE seen myself on video! Even at over 400 PSI, wasn't able to open the balloons to allow to spread the vertebra to allow him to inject cement that will reform the inside walls. The doctor was however, able to inject enough cement to make the surgery a success.

Had a ok night and except for getting up three times to use the bathroom, I'm doing well. Hoping and praying this procedure helps my overall pain.

I am glad the surgery was a success. The experience sounds a little harrowing. Did they have you on any happy juice (concious sedation)?

Hi Dave, I guess it was good that you COULD get up to go to the bathroom three times at night. Sounds like you were one brave soul yesterday, and here´s to getting rid of pain and a much-improved quality of life!! Keep us updated!

Doesn't sound like that is a procedure you would want to stand in line for. Let's hope that you get some significant relief from it

Dave, been thinking of you, and glad the doc is happy with the procedure. Praying that it will give you some long lasting pain relief... that's quite an experience you had...

Thanks for your concerns and prayers. I do feel better today except having a little stomach problem because of the meds during the surgery. I'm feeling a little better this evening.

Today, feeling much better from my surgery, but haven't slept much (maybe 4-5 hours a night) the past week or so. Since last Tuesday (first spot radiation, 11-5-2013) have had to take X-2 nausea meds a day. Since last Tuesday, I had lost 7 pounds in a week (hardly eat anything, but, since this Tuesday, have gained 3 pounds back...not. I'm really trying to loose down to 170 (now 194 lb and 5ft. 8in.) because of high BP and type 2 diabetics.

Again, thank you everyone here for your thoughts, concerns and prayers.

Feeling well enough this week to bake a "special request Oreo cake", muffins and today, making home made dinner rolls (started my own starter in 2006) as my 15 year old granddaughter can eat 1/2 dozen at a setting and making a couple loaves of homemade sourdough bread (started my own starter a couple years ago). As well as cooking dinner for our daughter, son in law and four grandkids, and the wife (yes, she still works outside of the home). Yes, I love to bake and have been baking home made cinnamon rolls since the mid-70's. Back in the late 70's, my wife, and a couple church members, made 1,000 (100 dozen) cinnamon rolls for a youth fund cause.
