How long after stopping HT/Radiation did PSA stay at acceptable level? (Gleason 9)

Hi there...I just want to share before bed a few things about PSA - This is my PSA (Public Service Announcement - I used to work in TV) for PSA

I have had highs and lows like most of the great people here. In my journey I made one major change in care from one University Medical Center to another (I live in NYC area). When I started at #2 - the First and primary difference of opinion was that Radiation was an option - Awesome! And the doctor was spectacular....

I went 9 months I don't know if thats good/bad..at the time I was really bummed out. The .3 in March 2012 was a low point...

I had 29 PSA tests in 45 months and that shocked me - but there are a few reasons
1) It's aggressive
2) Treatment at #1 included an instant read PSA machine...so I know what it is like to wait 1-3 days but also the instant read at 5-10 minuets...so it's like jammimg all emotions about a number from 48 hours into 4-8 min
3) My Doc was in urology and I also had an oncologist and I staggered them - it was one doc in Jan then the other in Feb and so on. in 2010 alone I had 13 PSA tests I think - AND I was on HT - 2010 was my full year on HT (sucked) and also my full year of undetectable PSA - 13 of them....

And obviously at 41 at diagnosis thank god I had no issues with insurance

Last thing - Over much of my journey I was going through a really bad divorce and every PSA test was a reminder that I was one one people that had to go through both... every PSA test was my opportunity to let the emotional roller coaster run wild...and if there are any newly diagnosed reading this find some info about PSA testing and managing all that goes along with it.

One last ironic point...when the divorce was final - (on my 36th day of radiation no less) the agreement was referred to as the PSA - Post Settlement agreement...so I have 3 different PSA's in my life...one being the most important now (Public Service)

Everyone is different. I've seen some guys, even g9s, who have no sign of PC after primary treatment. I was not as fortunate. I think I only went 15 months after primary treatment. But, oh well... it's just an indication that you need to throw something else at it....and there are a lot of things to fight back with.

What dose of Lupron did he have? Meaning, in March, was that a 3 month, 6 month shot? What is his current testosterone? If it was 6, T probably hasn't recovered yet.

For me, after surgery then adjuvant HT, PSA stayed at <.1 for about 5 months, then it started up with a doubling time that averaged out to about 28 days over a year. When I started HT, PSA was actually higher than it was before surgery. The gap from end of RT to start of HT was about 14 months.

I did a single 6 month Lupron shot which drove PSA to undetectable and T to single digits within 60 days. After that, we decided to take a holiday until the PSA started back up. T returned to normal very quickly. PSA has already started, getting to .3 in less than 3 months. I just skipped the last PSA. I have another benchmark PSA test in December, where the "more HT" decision will be made.
