Six Weeks Down, Many More to Go

Results from my first post-op PSA test: <.1. Great news, but already thinking about the next test-the "new normal" I guess.

Incontinence is progressing well. Dry at night and one pad a day at most. Unfortunately, I see this issue as a "1" or a "0" and I'm still a "1." ED is the biggest issue. It's only been 6 weeks and I can achieve about 50%, but not much progress. Today I switched from a daily dose of Cialis (5mg) to Viagra (it's covered by Tri-Care). Working on the dose level and not sure how this will work out yet. My Dr. also recommended using the VED 2-3 times daily to get the blood flowing, even if it's venous. Using the VED with the restriction ring was not working out.

Bob, I've had a few erections since my op almost 2 months ago now. They dont come natural as yet, they've to be encouraged. But I'm quite happy with the results thus far. I had one today WITHOUT the pump at about 60%.

I was told to use the VED ONCE a day in the morning for bloodflow and to prevent the "turtle"; that is your penis retracts after the operation and the VED helps in that regard as well.

At my six week checkup, the doc felt I was doing well with incontinence at one pad a day/dry at night. I do 100 kegels per day, 20 at a time for an eight count. Every 4-5 days I skip a day to give my muscles a rest. I also walk or use the cross trainer for about 40 minutes daily. I'm still frustrated with the slow progress, but it's progress nonetheless.

On the ED front, it is also going slowly until last night when was I was in the "10 ring" for the first time. This was the first time I used 100mg of Viagra.

My initial treatment was a daily 5mg dose of Cialis. I didn't have any real success-about 50% hardness when I doubled the dosage. At the six week checkup, I asked the doc to write a scrip for Viagra because it is covered by Tricare. I guess I wasn't too specific because he wrote the scrip for six 100mg pills (he also gave me a card for 3 free pills courtesy of Pfizer). My co-pay was $17; Tricare paid $143. I'm not sure if this was the Tricare monthly limit or just what the doc wrote. He emailed the scrip in, so I didn't see it until I picked it up. He recommended 25mg per day then 100mg on "game day," so the six pills won't make it through the month. It would also be difficult to cut one 100mg pill into four equal parts. I am also looking into a generic 20mg Revatio (sildenafil) for daily use. Maybe others can comment on their experiences in this regard. The doc also said I should use my VED a couple time a day to get the blood moving. I'll do it, but I'm not sure of the efficacy of the VED.
